we are planning to go to Cancun in December.
How is the weather usually in december? is this empty - the pirces look too good to be a pick season, so I am assuming this is somewhat off-season time, and I would rather change dates of travel than be sitting there all by myself. I do not need crazy crowd, but at least 70-80% booked would be nice.

Also, how can I find out whether the beach recovery is in the area of my hotel (Temptation), I would prefer to avoid being in the middle of construction site :p

    Temptation

You should check out the Temptation forumhttp://www.cancuncare.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4

Looks like there's a 14 page roll call.

December is busy, called High Season.

The beach at Temptation is not an issue. Cancun's Hotel Zone is shaped like a big number 7.

At the top of the 7 you are facing north and you are facing east if you hotel is on the longer part of the 7. Temptation is facing north and that part of the hotel zone is protected from the currents by the island Isla Mujeres. It is very calm and the beachs are nice and sandy for the most part.

The eastern facing beaches are the ones taking the hits.

You wll be fine as far as the beach is concerned.

As to the weather, check some of the weather sites for average temperatures. It is too cold for me to go to the beach most of December but if I was coming from Canada, for example, it would be just fine.

Middle of November is when tourism usually starts picking up, but the "high season" starts in the middle of December, peaks around xmas, and in January it slows down a bit, then it picks up again for spring break. Businesses in Cancun make most of their earnings between December and April.

If you come to Cancun early December I am sure you will have a great time. It won't be packed, but there will be enough people around not to make you feel you are at a deserted island (as it happened in May)

The prices are low because this has been a very bad year for us in Cancun. Some folks are still saying no to Cancun cause of the H1N1 Flu, so they are still keeping rates low.

The beach on Temptation is nice, but the only bad thing is that when you go into the water, it feels you are stepping on dog poo.
