You need Canadian dollars? Are you planning to come to Canada??
I hardly remember any place in Cancun which could offer even a half decent exchange rate for Canadian dollars...... be it Cdn $ to pesos or pesos to Cdn $.

Scorpio: Yup, flying to Edmonton as soon as I get my FM3 back.

Dont know what to do with the Pesos I have...

Maybe exchanging them to USD´s, then to Canadian once in Edmonton?

Canadian banks should be able to exchange pesos to dollars since we can buy pesos here for our trips down south. Of course there are always exchange booths at the airports as well.

you could also do what I encourage people coming to Mexico to do and use ATM's to draw from their accounts.

No... the exchange rate for a peso is VERY low in Canada.. you'll lose money on exchange.. and a lot..

If you need money-bring US dollars in and keep pesos for your return to Cancun.

I guess only 1 or 2 banks in Edmonton will even consider exchanging pesos....

Dos Equis: Dont want to put this cash in the bank, as the Mexican govt. will take a certain percentage.

Might look at getting USD´s, then exchanging them in Canada.

If you're talking about a large sum of money why not send yourself a transfer via Monex or similar outfits? For smaller amounts I'd just buy dollars as was said since it's much easier to use or change them once back in Canada. As for the Mexican government taking a percentage that's only if you exceed certain amounts monthly, so if you have time you could feed it in slowly as to not trigger those "taxes"...

Plan B would involve taking us all out for a fiesta on the beach instead.

Life: Never thought of the transfer, duuh! :banghead:

The problem is that the amount is per month, and Im supposed to leave fairly soon(within a month...), so I refuse to pay these damn taxes that the Govt steals... I heard it was an attempt to "halt the Narcos"... Haha, Im sure it really hurt their pockets... big time :aktion060:

Beach party is DEF Plan b! :D

Sorry to disagree with Life but if you exchange MXN for USD for CDN you are in effect paying two commissions.

Banamex shows their rate today at $12.39 Mxn for $1 CDN. But you run the risk they don't have them at the branch you would visit. I think it would be worth a trip to Scotiabank on Tulum as well as Banamex on Tulum. A lot of exchanging goes on there as a lot of the casas de cambio show up there to turn their US and Canadian dollars back into pesos so they can rip everyone off again with their crap rates.

I tried to use Monex last year (I've used them before in the past) and they said they couldn't help me, that they just handled corporate stuff now.
