Canada...Cash...And Cuncun....?

Hey what's up...Leavin for Cancun from Vancouver at the end of the month...stoked...but the lady at the bank said not to bring American money...but everything seems to go down with American cash in Cancun...I just got some travelers checks and ordered some pesos...but does anyone take Canadian cash down there at all or what ?

 

Most of the Canadians I know that go down there change to USD before they go. Do not bring CAD as they screw you by about 20% in the conversion in Cancun. With USD and CAD at almost Parity they should be the same in pesos.

Or just use your bank card and get pesos from ATM's. Just make sure you use actual bank ones the one in the lobby will rob you blind.

 

I do allot of traveling and bring nothing but US dollars with me, I've yet to find someone who won't take it.

 

The ATMs work just fine down there and aren't even that bad on exchange rate. I see no reason to bring much in $US. A Canadian buying $US so he can pay a Mexican seems stupid to me. Mexicans seem to enjoy Pesos.

I'd keep about $100US in my pocket for the trip and just leave it there. Use the OFF-RESORT ATM to get Pesos and then just pay in Pesos for everything. If something does go horrendously wrong in Mexico, you should have that $100US in your pocket no matter what to bail you out.

$100US can bail you out of literally almost anything in Mexico.

 

What Dave should have said in this post was "$100 CAN AND WILL bail you out" ha ha

The problem is that they give you 12 peso per USD and 9 peso per CAD.

 

We use the ATM at the little shop out front. (Far end of the parking lot). It gives a good exchange rate on Peso's.
