Hi Can anyone help us out me and my girlfriend are going cancun in feb and we were talking to our travel agent she was saying that mexico will not be accepting usd so we just wanna know if thats true. Even if it is true or not would we better off getting pesos anyway if anyone can help it would be much appreicated :ernaehrung015:
It is true that the Mexican government is trying to reduce/eliminate the use of USD as an accepted currency. That being said, money talks, BS walks. So the USD is still accepted. Now in reality, converting Pounds to Dollars to spend in Mexico as opposed to converting Pounds to Pesos might be a wash. Best advice people usually give is to convert some get into the country money to cover you expenses for the first day or two and then use a local ATM to withdraw further funds as needed. You get the very best exchange rate doing it that way. But be sure to let your bank know that you are traveling to Mexico so they don't think its fraud and put a hold on your card for further withdraws That way you are only converting what you need and reducing the possibility of having a fist full of Pesos at the end of the trip that you have to convert back. But that also comes with a warning to check the ATM fees your bank might charge for those withdraws. You might want to make fewer, larger ones to save on some of the flat rate fees. Bottom line is there is no one answer fits all. Some folks take cash and convert it as they go, some convert before hand, some use ATM's some use all three methods at the same time. Take a look at your proposed spending habits, checkout the fees and exchange costs of the various methods and choose what works for you. Jamie
Never been told that the usd still rules the world. You can get pesoes at your resort, I have been going to Cancun for 13 years and have never had a problem
Thanks jamie that's helped a lot not sure what were gonna do but thanks for the help and the gbp rules the world lmao only joking thanks stinky.
This is a British thing, following copied from my page at: Dollars or Pesos in Cancun? check out the page for more on this. That said, I'm a Brit too, and would recommend Brits to bring Pesos, or as Jamie mentioned take them from the ATM just as you would at home. Same advice for Canadians. You'll save on conversion charges and not get short changed as much than if you use Dollars.
yer herd yhe same thing last year thje only thing that was diffrent is the departure tax at the airport thay only thake punds or passos
