Can anyone shed light on this? Horrible TA review (Update: TA removed the review!)

I was stalking TTR on TripAdvisor, as I often do, and read this horrible review: Read this review - Review of Temptation Resort & Spa, Cancun, Mexico - TripAdvisor (Entitled "Read this Review").

Now, I know that a lot of the stuff on that site has to be taken with a grain of salt, and from what I've read on the forums here, the general attitude of TTR regulars is not consistent with the review. But this guy is truly awful! He starts with the bashing of overweight guests (can you say shallow?), but then it comes out that he had some kind of legal altercation with the General Manager! Was anyone there in April that might remember this awful guy? I think he was only there for 3 days.

Also... what is your reaction to what he says in his review of the actual resort?

I wasn't there in April but there were alot of guests from this board that were. However, he calls himself "travelsalot" yet he only has 2 reviews on TA? By the way, he didn't like the other hotel he stayed at either.

No way would the GM of the resort extort their guests. Honestly, could you imagine? Sounds like a blowhard who expected to be the life of the party and found out he was nothing more than a loud mouth trouble maker (why else would he be asked to leave?). In short, his review is about the exact opposite of the vibe for the resort.

That's pretty much what I got from it too... I was just interested in hearing another side of the story, especially about him getting kicked off the resort. I know TTR doesn't usually respond to TripAdvisor reviews, so I was hoping someone here would know something.

That's what I've gathered from being here for a few weeks. It honestly was a bit frustrating to read the review, because my fiance and I are probably the "morbidly obese" people this guy would be talking about. We call ourselves "fit fatties"... we run three times a week and are training for a 5K (and dropping lots of pounds), but we're really hoping not to run into this kind of judgment on our honeymoon.

You can't please everyone-not everyone is going to love the same place! He has some valid points-
the resort seems old-it is old, the oldest in Cancun, I think
no fresh fruit in drinks-well, you are not paying $15/drink like you would be at the Ritz
attractiveness of guest-no guarantees of beautiful people no matter where you go
timeshare people-they have never called me in 7 trips. Beyond check-in, where they've asked if I was interested and that was the end of it. I was wondering if he hadn't booked a special deal (like some people do) where you agree to visit the resort and agree to the tour.

All I can say, is that you get what you pay for usually. This is probably the most inexpensive all-inclusive resorts in Cancun. Or resorts, period. My first trip, I was expecting it to be horrible based on the price and was pleasantly surprised by what I found, but it is not the Ritz or South Beach.

This man sounds like he needs a vacation on a deserted island with plenty of mirrors and a hand-picked staff to cater to his individual demands. And an attitude adjustment.

I have never seen this kind of judgement at the resort, however I haven't hung out in the quiet pool either, that's where I think all the lame people hang out, lmbo. As for the Management or timeshare they have alway been helpful and friendly even when I didn't want to do the tour. One year I lost my wallet, everything except my passport and they let me use hotel phone at no cost. It took alot of international phone calls to get everything squared away and they helped with everything includeing taking care of the can fare to get money from the western union. I don't think you can ask for better customer service than that. Sounds like the guy is just a miserable person.

I'd ignore this prick's review. We just got back from our first trip and had the time of your life. If you are going there with your spouse (this guy claims to be married) why would it matter the physical condition of the other people? Sure people watching is fun but if you are so hung up on the physical appearance of everyone else to make your trip enjoyable, then he is nothing more than a jacka$$. You'll run into people like this everywhere so don't let it change your mind.

The week we were there we saw people of every size, color and nationality. Not once did anyone from our group make a single comment about it. Unless you are one to worry what everyone else thinks, you'll have a great time. Remember, Nobody knows you and nobody gives a $hit (unless you are this prick from California!).

ive said eveything that ever needed to be said on this subject and here it is yet again all neatly packaged in a "rob" nutshell

whatever you do and wherever you go - never make your trip plans based upon one or two peoples opinion

make your decision after researching thoroughly and looking at all opinions not just a handful

the reality of the situation is this -

if you are looking for a resort to have a good time, let your hair down, party and not worry about what you look like and how you are supposed to act then .................quite simply - this is your place

    on the other hand

if you are looking for a ton of pretentious people laying around sipping on cocktails, listening to tiny tim and bette middler and trying to act pretty and be cool discussing all the hoopla and hysteria surrounding global warming and religous indignation

    then

i would be willing to bet you just about anything you have that you are absolutely going to hate this place with a passion

just depends upon what type of vacation you are looking for

    the best

    rob/t
