Tonya had Verizon add a week long international plan to her phone for $15. Does anyone know if there are additional charges either from the local carrier or from Verizon that will be added and if so how much they are?
Just came back from our first trip and we had Verizon we added the same plane and had no issues. With our plane we had 75 free minutes so all we paid was the cost to add the plan for the days we where there. We all so added a data plan for $25 that gave us 100 Megs of data which was good to check emails.
Same here Change to international plan on verizon the day before we leave...no problem and costs almost nothing..its not like im on my phone at TTR more than once or twice anyways
If you don't need your exact phone number and can find some wifi, you can add credits with skype to make calls to normal phone lines for super cheap. We've used that while in mexico many times to make calls to change flight reservations and all sorts of stuff. Google Voice can also work for this too. One other thing, if you have TMobile, and one of their many phones that have the wifi calling, I spoke with them and they said you can use the wifi calling to make and receive phone calls and texts in mexico for free as long as it's going to normal US numbers just like if you were at home in an area with bad service and are attached to wifi. So that can be a good option too.
Just don't try using a payphone, major waste of money.... I tried calling my bank with one and I would run out of pesos whenever they put me on hold lol then I'd keep trying like a fool with the same results
At least from the cabo TTR it was crazy expensive to call home. Also beware the call collect to the US thing on the phones that say how to dial, it cost like 10 dollars per attempt as a connection fee. I was trying to call the number on the back of my credit card, the international call collect number, which never even worked nor answered so my my 4 or 5 attempts thinking I must have been doing something wrong, got a suprise $50 charge on my room account at checkout. The other option is if you have an unlocked GSM phone to go into any of the cell phone stores there in mexico for telcel and you can buy a prepaid sim there for the phone that includes minutes and data for fairly cheap too.
