I've just signed up for the 999 pesos 5mb connection with Telmex and i'm getting a shocking 2.80mb maximum. I saw that Cablemas are now offering a 6m connection with digital channels for 1200 pesos which is a much better deal than i am paying at the moment with the sky charges and phone added together plus apparently a better connection. What i wanted to know, does anyone have a cablemas connection, preferably 6mb but if not anything, can you do a speedtest and post it for me, together with what connection you are supposed to be getting? I just don't want to sign a 12 month contract for 6mb and get hit with 1.73mb maximum or something like that, as it's such an effort to change everything over and would hate to be stuck with a worse service for a year, however a better connection could make all the difference for me.
sorry i forgot the link Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test I would really appreciate if someone who has cablemas could do a speedtest for me, thank you.
I think the more accurate information would be from your immediate neighbors... as we've seen over and over different parts of town seem to get different speeds... my cablemas recently went up to 4mbit which is blazing compared to the slower speeds I've dealt with for years... I'll mention that the speeds to actual sites like YouTube are still stalling out at less than 1 mbit most times so they might be giving priority to speedtest sites to look better.... (a common practice among ISPs) but downloads are coming faster than I've seen in a while which is a good thing... until they overload the network on my street again and it goes back to a crawl at least. I also wish they'd get the upload to around 1mb so I could get a decent webcam picture when I call home.... but I suppose I'd better not push my luck...
unless you need the speed for a business reason, find a site where you are doing Youtube etc. In my opinion if you get a good enough streaming experience you are doing pretty well. Don't let stat's draw you into extra $ per month.
Thanks for the stats, Alma, I take it that is a 4mbit service you have with Cablemas, not the 6mb? Any ideas on actual download speed on files? I'm supposedly on 4mb but as i mentioned before speedtest is showing 2.80mb, however i'm getting a physical download speed of approx 360kb - 410kb depending on the server it's coming from. For me it's vital I have the fastest possible connection, i'm trying to use a VPN tunnel and it's not working over PCoIP because according to VMView's technical support the only possible reason it's not working is because i'm below the latency threshold with the connection I have. I can use RDP no problem but it sucks and using something like Photoshop is impossible on remote virtual machine with that sort of connection, as the screen has to refresh about five times, loading in blocks when I just move part of one layer, can't imagine trying to work with a 2gb file with 100 layers, might even take me longer than it would to do here on my machine and upload the psd!
Notice my latency/ping speed is 360ms and the two Cablemas above are getting 157ms and 172ms, think i may have solved my problem, as I'm guessing Cablemas shouldn't suffer the same distance from the exchange problems as Telmex does?
CABLEMAS FAIL! No service in Jardines Del Bonampak area, stops at Corales! How crap is that! Looks like i'm stuck with Telmex :icon_cry:
