Budgerigar

I sit next to a an American girl at work and today I commented about a Budgerigar - to which she replied Budgeri -WHAT!

Is the word Budgerigar not used at all in the US?

That word is not used in our neck of the woods (USA). It would be a parakeet or budgie, which are very popluar.

 

That was one I had to google. It's Parakeet up here too.

 

Never heard that one! I know ¨biro¨from books I´ve read, but it´s not used, we usually just say ¨pen¨.

 

Great word though isn't it!

There was a budgerigar sitting on top of a belisha beacon close to the pelican crossing. :lol:

 

Actually it sounds much to close to buggering for me but in Spanish it is a periquito.
