My husband has a DSLR camera and is wondering if it's worth bringing it or not. What about a laptop? Is there room in the safe for anything like that? If not, what do you do with your valuables when you want to leave them in your room?
i bring a waterproof camera..safes are small hotel ones..not large at all..i would suggest to NOT bring any thing valuable..not that we have ever had anything but a tee shirt taken...we became members last jan..and our trip this jan will be about our 7/8 one!!
I leave my DSLR at home,, safe is pretty small, might fit the smaller 14/15 inch lap tops. Will prob, fit if you take the lens off. If you bring out a big camera to the sexy pool you may get some unwanted attention.Got to be careful where you aim it. You may have good intentions but some drunk guy may see it differently. I always struggle with the discussion on whether or not to bring it. If you do you may want to invest in one of those vandal resistant bags that has an aircraft/cable /lock on it to tie to your chair at the pool ect.. ps a few months ago I bought a $100 Nexbook that does Emails Facebook ect... based on the Android system,, maybe on option.
Live by the rule that you don't bring anything to TTR that you would be upset to lose/break. There is some occasional theft if you are careless and leave a good camera, smartphone or sunglasses unattended on top of your lounge chair, but mostly people get drunk and lose/break their stuff all by themselves without any sinister intervention from anyone else. I bring $30 sunglasses to TTR, no electronic devices, no valuable jewellery, and although I did buy a $100 waterproof camera on sale recently, it would be better to just bring a disposable waterproof camera. You would be surprised how many people drop their cameras overboard on the Boobs Cruises. I know couples who wear faux diamonds to TTR instead of their real wedding rings. There are reliable small safes in the room, but I personally walk out of my room at least twice per trip without remembering to close and lock my safe. One person in my group in September forgot to even close the door to his room one day! So save yourself some worry by leaving valuables at home.
who might you be talking about? Seriously dont bring a fancy camera or laptop you wont have time to use them anyway. Safes are good but not always. My friends stayed at the rui caribe cancun 2 years ago went to a show came back and their safe was gone!!
I barely used my SLR last time, so I'm not going to bring it next time. It fit in the safe with the lense on but I locked it in my empty suitcase for most of the trip. I don't bother with laptop, too busy having fun to bother.
Most to all the smartphones these days will do everything you want on them ....take pics, video, emails, internet, etc... the only thing they are not is waterproof. We are just taking a disposal waterproof camera and the cell phone only to text home and let the kid know we are still alive lol. Hate lugging around the camera case for my good camera.
We took the DSLR last year along with a bunch of pro gear. Had no problems, but we weren't using it by the pool at all and were very careful to be using it amongst ourselves and away from groups. If its just the body and a lens or two, the safe is perfectly fine. Things start getting tight with a laptop, flashes, telephotos, radio triggers, etc etc. If you do bring it, go minimal.
Thanks everyone. I think we'll skip the DSLR. Chances are we'll be drinking most of the time and he doesn't like to use it when too inebriated for obvious reasons! I have a decent point and shoot I'll bring instead for any side trips.
