Ok , so I got my majic jack setup in Cancun and I can call there for free ( when the internet is connected) and can call the US and Canada from CUN for only USD$40 a year. but yes , I want even more convenience.

My friend here in Texas said he bought a Boost Mobile , cell/walkie talkie and sent his mom one in Matamoras. he can make unlimited calls , texts , and walkie talkie connections and vice-versa - for USD$60 a month. He also said that Nextel works this way also , that they are basically the same company.

    any info on this?????

MJ works fine as long as your computer is on, but what happens when its off and you get a call. Vonage works better, but does cost a little more but so what? You dont have to lug your laptop around. I have lots of Vonage units here in Mexico.

I use Nextel as well, can call all over Mexico to Landlines, or to any line in the US and Canada. Mine is a lot more, but its worth it to be able to call anywhere anytime

you can call from your Nextel to Mexico landlines while in Mexico or just while you are in the states? are you charged roaming or is it included in the plan.

I use the MJ as a backup answering service. but I would much rather have the capability to answer and make calls while in Mexico without roaming. I ran up a USD$180 bill (roaming) one time on Verizon

Unfortunately Verizon knocked out its North American plan that used to include Mexico. Some people are grandfathered in on that plan. At&T offers something as well. My Nextel is from Mexico. I pay 1150 pesos per month with 1200 anytime talk minutes and unlimited walkie talkie. I also have Telcel a Telcel National plan for cell phones as most people here have a cell phone. I have a Telmex Landline and I use and sell Vonage, so with all those number I canĀ“t get lost. My best bet for you would be to go with Vonage, get yourself some DECT 6.0 cordless phones and have the range of a block to have calls from anywhere in the US. You can also set up virtual numbers from the USA and also in Mexico City. Please PM me if I can tell you more or so we can talk on one of my phone lines. You should still have my numbers Charles.............
