Our last cruise on the 2nd didnt go ahead due to lack of numbers. I'm getting to the point where I'm seriously considering whether to bother organising any more boobs cruises in the future.

Of 42 people signed up, 13 people actually showed. Last cruise we had 82 signed up and 58 showed. This time the weather was windy but we had taken measures to ensure we could go ahead by having a larger than normal boat ready for us that would have been allowed to sail. But we can not fill a boat built for 60, with 13 people.

29 people (70%) decided to sleep in and not even bother to make it to to the lobby to see what the plans were. If they had, they would have known that had we not gone ahead that day we were hoping to re-arrange for today (Tuesday) which ended up being perfect weather and 95% of people were still here.

I dont know about your moral values, but when I make a commitment I stick to it. We ordered transport that still had to be paid for, we arranged child care that still had to be paid for, we had a crew standing by that were sent home and we had food ordered that didnt get eaten and booze that didnt get drank. We prepared to take a day out of our usual schedule but 70% of you guys just cared about your hangovers, turned over on your pillow and said fuck it. That attitude might be OK in some places, but from where I come from it's not acceptable.

I do want to say thanks to the 13 that did show, I'm sorry we couldnt go ahead.

For those that didnt show for this cruise and the last, well dont bother signing up in future.

steve certainly understand where you are coming from on this

as you know, we have done a number of these over the years and every single time we have made the commit 99.9 percent showed as committed

i think ours is a rare group indeed - with that said

i still think if i were in your position i would make people pay in advance

i know that you are reluctant to do this but if i am in your shoes my friend ( i have been burned as many times as you im sure) then i make them pay in advance

    (1) it assures you that you will get your money regardless so that you dont get stuck like that
    (2) it keeps people honest

we do tons of group functions year round - and over the years ive found that if someone is not willing to pay upfront then they are immediately suspect in my book and quite frankly dont want dey ass anyhow

    just my thoughts steve

I know your group has always been reliable Rob, wasnt meant at a dig at you - your group didnt sign up so wasnt counted upon. Did look for you in the lobby on Sunday for a quick hello as you mentioned though but didnt see you.

The problem with payment in advance is that I'd have to deal with reconciling payments from real names to board names and match to those showing on the day. Or refunding payments if a proposed cruise got cancelled due to lack of numbers or weather and the, no doubt, expected refunds following a succesfull event if people felt they had legitimate reasons to not show.

I think payment in advance would lead to less cruises having sufficient numbers to go ahead in the first place.

I really dont want to have to 'walk round with a clipboard' ticking names off on the day, nor spending any more admin time on Pm's and email beforehand than I already do to set these things up. Then there's paypal charges and exchange rate charges meaning a $65 payment ends up being $55 before it gets in my hand. Yet the prices we have to pay dont change.

It would all end up being a whole lot more hassle than it should be.

Call me old fashioned but I just believe in people having the morals to stand by their word. I always make it clear that only those who are 100% committed should sign up. If that's not going to happen, then I'd rather not bother at all in the first place.

Steve..................I hear you, but I really think that the pay ahead idea is the way to go. Don't have sign-ups on the board......just take the registrations through PayPal or some othe cerdit card company. Build in the fees so that when the $ does reach you it hasn't diminished. Just suggestions.

Here's a question...............Say 10 of us want to take a cruise of our own........is there a smaller boat available.......and what might the fees be? There are some of us coming in June that might prefer a smaller group. Ideas?

How about TTR's yacht? Premier members I think can rent it for around $300. for like 12 people?

If you book a cruise or any event with Sergio or Vic at the towel hut you pay in full in advance. No reason not to ask for the same.

Personally I would pay more whenever we cruise and if part of that cost goes for Paypal or conversion fees it would not matter to me.

I know that I don't like paying for food, crew, or any other costs associated with people that sign up and don't show up. Requiring everyone to pay in full in advance may actually lower the cost for those of us that do show up, or allow us to enjoy a nicer boat. Having 13 people on a 60 passenger boat would have been pretty sweet.

Sadly people seem to forget that a real person (Steve) does a lot of work to organize everything. I can totally understand how frustrating it is when you get a "commitment" from people and they just never show up.

I agree with the pay in advance idea but Steve you have to do what is best for your sanity. We've never been on one of your cruises and would hate to see them disappear.
