(Could they really be serious about this?) At least 27 public officials, among them 10 "Mayors" (4 PRI, 4 PRD and 2 PAN from the municipalities of Apatzingán, Uruapan, Buenavista Tomatlán, Coahuayana, Arteaga, Tepalcatepec, Aquila, Tumbiscatío, Ciudad Hidalgo and Zitácuaro) have been arrested the Governor of the state said. He had not been informed previously by the federal government that this was going to happen. All of those arrested were taken to the SEIDO (Office of Special Attorney for the Investigation of Organized Crime)headquarters Among the other 17 are 1 judge, and officials from local police departments and the State Attorney General's Office. One was ex-Secretary of the Police for the State of Michoacan and is currently serving as consultant to the Governor. Another was head of Police Formation for the State. These arrests followed the capture of members of "The Familia Michoacana" in the states of Mexico and Michoacan.
Impressive. I wonder how many of those folks are guilty? I wonder how many guilty folks they didn't arrest? One thing is for sure, in Mexico there is no shortage of people who are willing and motivated to get involved with organized crime. I think that the mob can refill its ranks as fast as the feds can bust people. But, hey, at least they are trying to clean things up, right? I wonder if this particular operation had any help from the US. I understand the feds in the US have been working with Mexico to bust these cartels.
