Hi everyone! We're an open-minded couple who are deciding which Temptations to go to in August. We've been talking about it for years. Hubby has pretty much left the decision in my hands. I'm sure that we'll have a great time in either place. I'm a beach person though so a big deciding factor for me is the best beach. From what I understand, swimming isn't safe in Cabo. Is this correct? What about other beaches fairly close to either resort? I like Cuba type beaches...clear warm water, white sand. We'd also like to do some snorkeling. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully we can meet some of you in August!
We don't have any experience with Cabo, but there is really nothing special about the beach in Cancun at Temptation. It definately isn't horrible by any means though. I have heard that all of the beaches on the north end of the "7" aren't all that great. We made the trip to Playa Delfines, and it was totally worth it! Also the beaches on Isla Mujeres are very nice as well! Planning on taking a day trip to the island when we are there. Good luck with the decision!

The beach at Temptation is not great, but it's not poor either. The sand is white powder doesn't get hot and is wide enough - the ocean though has quite a bit of weed and is not much fun to swim although there are no to little waves. On the short side of the 7 you can find really nice beaches at Playa Tortugas and also where the Presidente and Riu Cancun is. The best beaches though are on the long side of the 7. At party center there is a walkway between Coco Bongo and The City, you'll find a nice beach there that matches travel company brochure pictures. The best stretch of beach is probably Playa Delfines (as mentioned above) and is definitely worth a trip, 20-30 minutes by bus. Waves and currents on the long side of the 7 often mean that red flags are flying so sometimes there's no swimming, but you'll certainly enjoy the fantastic view. I think its 4 of the top 15 beaches in the World (as voted on Tripadvisor) are to be found within an hour of Cancun. If you're looking for a perfect beach you can certainly find it but it does take a little effort, you wont find it right on your doorstep at Temptation. But no one goes to Temptation for the beach, and I'm pretty sure no one goes to Cabo for the beach either!
How far is Playa Delfines? Did you have your own transportation or was there a package trip that takes you there. Is it mostly a beach or is there snorkeling there? We want to snorkel a fair bit.
Playa Delfines was about a 20 or 30 minute sweaty bus ride, but totally worth it. When we went it was kinda rocky, and not really swimable, but it had breathtaking views. I say if you want a nice combination of beach and swimming/snorkeling, you go to Isla Mujeres. It is a short bus ride to the port, and a 20 minute ferry ride to the island. Rent golf carts and cruise the island! They also have snorkeling towards the north end of the island. We plan on making this outing on our next trip! Good luck!
Thanks, that sounds like a plan. What about taking the booze (boobs) cruise over? How long do we have on the island on that excursion?
Not totally sure, as we haven't made it to one of Steve's boobs cruises (yet). Last time we went, we went on the no boobs/old grumpy people with kids cruise. I think on Steve's cruise, you have a couple hours on the island. I am sure you are welcome to go exploring on your own, but my understanding is that there are planned activities during the time on the island. The cruise we went on, we had about an hour to rent a moped and do a little exploring which was the most fun part of that trip! We also were able to do snorkeling during that trip. But, I would NOT recommend the cruise we went on! Steve's trip is the one to go on, or so I hear!!! Looking forward to getting a cruise put together for the end of August!
We make two stops at the island. The first is for lunch at a beach club towards the Southern end. We have about one hour 30 minutes there. Then next stop is downtown Isla Mujeres where we have about an hour and a quarter. You can either use this as free time and do your own thing (such as shopping or exploring) or come with a group of us to a local bar. It's fair to say there isnt sufficient time to hire a golf cart and go off exploring the rest of the island though. I suppose if you wanted to you could make your own way back via public ferry and then you could stay as long as you like.
If you want to snorkel in Cancun, then doing the ''Jungle Tour'' is the best option for you. You drive jet skis out to the snorkeling spot, snorkel for a while , then drive the jet skis back. Usually the tours leave from Aqua World which is directly across the street from the Omni Hotel. In August there is pretty good snorkeling there.
