We love Mexican food. Can anyone give us some hints on great off resort places. From hole in the walls to street carts to 5 star.

    Thanks

If you fancy a trip to Puerto Morelos which is a cab ride from TTR . There's is a hole in the wall place there just off the town towards the beach . It literally is a hole in the wall maybe three tables inside and a few on the sidewalk but the food was awesome and super cheap only problem is can't remember what the place is called .

If you are in Playa Del Carmen ...El Fagone was good as well .
And if you want the best wood oven Mexican pizza or Calzones you have to go to Cocos Cabanas which is between Puerto Morelos and Playa .

We visited a great spot in Cancun during our June trip. I can't remember the name, but we asked at the front desk and the staff recommended the place. It was about a 10 minute cab ride, and the driver was there to pick us up after as well. Food was quite good as was the price, and the cab driver knew we would probably be out in about an hour or so and was ready for us again. Sorry I can't quite get the name, but the desk and front door staff recommended the place. It was not on the hotel strip though, and back into town. Far more authentic that way.

Could La Parilla be the place you are speaking of?

There are a couple of places next to La Parilla that are very nice also. Los Agos, or something like that. I can never remember the name, so we catch a cab to La Parilla, and walk next door. No hint of being commercial at those, and very authentic.
