Can anyone tell me what the beaches are like right now in Cancun? Someone told me they were back to being nothing and all rock again.

    I hope this is false.

I looked at some pictures of someone's trip at Sun Palace last week and that part of the beach looked fine to me. Question answered I guess.

Its just a picture was emailed to my SIL and she showed me a non-existant beach with just rocks. I don't know where or what part of cancun this was and it was a recent picture.

The beaches come and go and change from hotel to hotel. The east side of the island is a bit of a mess while the north side has some great stretches (particularly behind the Ambiance Villas, gorgeous). Last time I was on the east side, it was depressing, but as I said, they come and go and change rapidly.

A couple of days ago it was announced that a Mexican company has been hired to start the beach recovery project. They are supposed to start in about two weeks and the project should last about 4 months. Beaches in Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen (Playacar) and Cozumel will be repaired and there is a 10 year commitment to maintenance.

    Westin Beach

    Michele

We have stayed at the Westin the last 7 Novembers. The beach is huge now!
Our first trip you couldn't walk from one end of the property to the other.
Now the beach is about 10 to 20 yards wide. Good waves too.

Your blog says the company name is Dragados. If it's Mexicanas Dragados then the company is the Mexican arm of Jan De Nul, the same company that did the last restoration. Hopefully the government will support the project's design and upkeep so that we avoid the waste of effort we currently live with.

    justjimmy,

great I am so looking forward to our summer vacation. Are the waves big enough to boogie board on?
I wonder if the undertow is strong in July???

    Waves

    Way boogie boardable

Many of the days were red flag but the life guard just kept people closer to shore and more centralized.

One calm day we walked over to the peninsula by Club Med to snorkle.
