Hi, I was wondering if anyone had discovered any beaches between Cancun and Playa that you can easily drive to and get to? I know of Puerto Morelos and although nice it's not the best, at least where i went in front of that small hotel. I saw a sign for a beach club on the way to Playa the other day but considering the distance there must be a ton of stunning beaches that the public can access between here and playa? I also know of Isla Blanca but the seas a bit rough for the kids. I also wondered what your favorite beaches in Cancun are? I know the one in front of the City has improved a lot but far too many people for me and I like the one in front of what used to be Kin-ha but it's a little walk to get there. I noticed they have also done a lot of work to the first beach access, a lot cleaner but always busy at weekends. Then there is Tortugas, has that improved at all, i know that used to always be one of the busiest. Where do you guys go for a beach fix, I take it not the beach just past the ferry port on the old road to Punta Sam that's full of people swimming in their clothes? LOL! There is also a quiet beach if you carry on up to the carry ferry port in Punta Sam, that has been cleaned up a lot and it's front of a brand new hotel.
I've heard a lot about Playa Maroma being the prettiest beach in the area. Haven't been there myself, but mabe someone else has more info.
From what i can find online it looks stunning but only finding hotels, i wonder if there is any access to it without having to go to a hotel?
Tortugas is having its parking lot repaired right now. Its ok, but Playa Delfines is far better an wider then Tortugas. Tortugas has a lot of rocks to climb, though this past weekend it had a nice crowd enjoying the water.
Last time I went to Playa Maroma, I had to go thru 3 security checkpoints to get in. It is lovely but more about solitude and privacy and security. I don't know of any public access. You can go to Puerto Morelos and then head back north and find some nice, relatively private areas of beach. Ceiba del Mar is that way. That'd be the new Desire property.
There is Playa Secreto. It is on the way to Playa del Carmen. If I tell you more, then it wouldn't be a Secret. Playa Las Perlas is a small beach area near and I beleive that has a playground for the kids (what is with the metal playgrounds around cancun? Who designed those?) and palapas to sit under, if you get there early enough.. There is some new construction next door (Kulkukan Tower, or something like that). Also, Playa Langosta (I am pretty sure that is the name). It is near of the big flagpole (sometimes there is a BIG Mexican flag on it) in the hotel zone. The water is usually very shallow. It used to be an area with a shopping plaza and restaurants but now it is deserted and the land that was taken over by the Federal government and has a fence a round it, but that doesn't stop many people from going there. I have been there many times (always on a weekend) and never had a problem.
<<Tortugas is having its parking lot repaired right now.>> I don't think that the parking lot is being repaired by choice per se but rather it's being ripped up to accommodate the infrastructure requirements associated with the newest monster eyesore, the Riu Peninsula being built nearby just to the west. It aught to be interesting to see as to how the developers of the place fill in the "non-beach area" directly in front of the new structure???? All those new rooms having to share the Riu Caribe's actual beachfront should be interesting and cramped.
I found a really great beach yesterday. I am not sure how long it has been there, but it is new to me (since I do not frequently travel to that area). I was coming from the airport, going towards the hotel zone and came across a parking lot right after Wet and Wild. I could not find the name of the beach but it is very nice. Lots of palm trees and walkable paths (wood and concrete). There are picnic tables on the beach and "huts" that you can hang a hammock under. It is very nicely designed, manicured and clean. There was alot of "seagrass" there but, I am not sure if that was only due to the windy weather over the past few days. Like most beaches here, you need to get there early if you want to secure a prime spot.
Poco: The one right next to Wet n Wild? It has a tiny wooden "pier" when you walk to the right? Used to take the dogs there, until they banned dogs there as well. Nice place. They put a fair bit of effort to fix it up. Every time Ive been, its been very calm - no wind and thus, sometimes full of seaweed and a LOT of "sea-lice". Beware when exiting the place and entering the Hotel Zone road... Witnessed a very bad accident about a year ago.
Hi Rawkus, I saw the "no dogs" sign but it seems to be ignored as there were 4 or 5 dogs running around there. I did not go in the water but thanks for the heads up about the sea lice.
