Just a reminder to be careful on the highways and toll roads when traveling at night... I just found out that a friend was involved in a high speed accident last night on the road to Merida. He hit a semi trailer truck (lorry) that was completely stopped right in the roadway, most likely with no lights on. Unfortunately not all of his passengers survived the crash.

So just keep that in mind and be extra vigilant when driving especially at night.. you never know what might be hiding in the dark.

Thanks, and agreed. In the past week alone, I've almost been in 3 accidents because of light issues.

Near Merida, we almost hit a bike then an oncoming car bc a cyclist in front of us had no reflectors and was wearing dark clothing at 10 pm.

Same road later that night, almost hit an oncoming car bc the driver of our car thought it was a motorcycle (inner headlight was broken).

Here in downtown Cancun, we almost got hit by a motorcycle. The driver of our car saw no oncoming vehicles and was about to cross the road, but along came a motorcycle with no lights on.

Be careful out there, and for the love of God use your reflectors/headlights properly.

Life, I hope your friend's ok. Saludos.

So sorry to hear about your friend, what a tragedy. :(

Thanks for the reminder, wish everyone in town would pay attention, had some close calls myself recently.

Life, so sorry to hear about your friend and the needless loss of life.

Lately I have been amazed at the number of taxis that have no brake light and this is scary as they are famous for slamming on brakes, making fast lane changes, etc and it is dangerous to be behind them.

Not to mention the large number of non taxis with non working brake lights.

Why don't the cops ticket this sort of thing, along with turning left from other than the left lane, running red lights and any other thing you can imagine.

I must say that I am a better defensive driver here but it is damn stressful being on defense all the time, especially when the divine Ms A is yelling "cuidado, cuidado" every 5 seconds.
