Soooo... Getting some savings sent from back home to my Mexican account. Im unsure about the direct-transaction from a Swedish account to a Mexican, mostly thanks to the Govt taking a certain % when money is put in your Mexican account. Cant remember the limit, nor the % the Mex Govt takes though. Im choosing between this transaction and Western Union/Money Gram. The one with the lowest fee = winner. Has anyone done this type of transaction lately? Is that "anti money laundering law" still in effect? Used to do this when I lived in Australia and it was both faster, safer and cheaper than WU/MG. Ps. The amount is roughly US$ 5000.
I know with my UK bank (HSBC) I can send up to £10,000 a day for the cost of £14. I'd expect that is fairly similar across most banks. The Mexican Govt dont take anything, not for a wire transfer anyway. There's no charge from the Mexican bank either to receive funds - certainly with Banamex in any case.
This. We wire funds from our Schwab account in the States to our Bancomer account here. The cost is $15. If it is converting from Dollars to Pesos, Schwab always looks for the best available exchange rate. There is no % fee taken from Bancomer. Has been smooth sailing so far.
I'm actually surprised how smooth and efficient it is. A recent transfer I requested online at 8am was in our Mexican account by 10am same day. I used to just take cash from the ATM as needed but the UK international withdrawal charge is £4 and the ATM charge is about £1 with a daily maximum of £250. Now I just transfer a larger sum to last us a few months much less frequently.
Cool! Thanks Steve and valgunn. Maybe its just "interiors" deposits that they touch? Dont actually know if they still do that, but remember that they used to take a certain % of what went over 12 000 or 15 000 pesos. Nice way to combat money laundering, lol Ill get on it, asap. Thanks again. Nice to not have to go to WU or MG...
