Anyone know if Delta checks baggage all the way thru to final destination or do we have to claim and re check bags when entering US?

Anytime you enter the US regardless of what country you are coming from you have to go through customs and then re-check bag if you have an onward destination.

NOT,,, when fly from Canada to Mexico with a lay over/transfer in Chicago you do not have to claim'recheck baggage because Canada pre clears you

On the way back though its a different story, US doesn't recognize Mexican clearing ..

Best to call your airline and ask the professionals

    Depends on you Gateways too

And always remember that when you have to claim your baggage to go through customs and then re-check it for the connecting flight, it's an excellent time to put any liquids you bought duty free into your checked luggage.

Because you'er going to have to go through security screening again and you don't want to lose that $75 bottle of tequilla you just bought!

Good advice. almost lost our duty free booze once. Had a plane change in the US on return and had to come out of security and back into security. It was the same airline. Don't think we even went through customs there either. First time I had see that.

So you're saying if you buy a bottle of duty free liquor at the Cancun airport and take it on the flight leaving Cancun in your carry-on, the first airport in the US will confiscate it if you need to catch a connecting flight and you still have it in your carry-on?

    Good to know

Correct, after you go through customs they will let you check your luggage immediately. This is when you need to stash your liquor in the suite case. Then you have to go back through security as if you are just arriving at the airport for the first time.
