I know it is kind of early but I was wondering if any Native English speaking mothers have any baby group/play date groups organized. I am three months pregnant and would like to meet other new mothers in Cancun.
Congrats on the forthcoming baby! We have a 10 week old son and I know Mz Teedee (username) recently had a baby girl. I'm not really sure what a 'baby group' entails but feel free to contact my wife Jannet
Thanks Steve! I have plenty of Mexican friends here that are getting married and having babies. Actually both of my sister in laws are pregnant too. I think it would be nice to have some play dates with other expat mommies though. Thanks again!
On the subject of babies, it is incredible how expensive it is here for clothes for babies and toddlers. Quality is not top notch but, prices are very high. It is not uncommon to see a boys shirt and pants combo or girls dress for $400 pesos. I am sure it is due to high inport fees and high rents in the big plazas and malls around town.
Not to mention the cost of formula, baby bottles and nappies (diapers). Running a price check against the same or similar products back home in the UK (renowned as an expensive country) everything is around 50% more expensive here, some things are double the price.
Well that's not much to look forward to. Good thing my father comes down at least once a month for business. He'll be bringing suitcases of diapers with him for the next couple of years (o:
For all of the moms-to-be and recent moms, there is a new baby store in Cancun. It is called Baby Kutie. It is on Ave. Uxmal (on the corner of Bonampak (Going towards ave. tulum on Uxmal, from Bonampak, it is on the opposite side of the street from where starbucks is and across from Puerto Cancun). It is a small store but has a lot of things in small quantities. Mostly clothes for boys and girls (I saw boys clothes (carters) priced from $100 pesos and other brands for less then that) but, there are also some strollers, and accessories. They have something called a Boppy which is like a foam pad that wraps around your waist so feeding time is easier. There are very unique items there that can not be found anywhere else since the owner is also the designer, such as, sleeping bags for newborns, changing pads, diaper bags and bath towels. Mention Cancuncare and she will give you 15% off of the price. It is a brand new store so they need as many new customers as they can get. Great place for baby shower gifts. And, yes, I know the owner. I am just trying to help her out, so please go visit them soon. You can also check them out at Baby Kutie - Inicio
Baby group sounds like a great idea! Are expat dads invited too? Let's do it! please keep me informed of any get-together.
