Is it true the buffets are nasty with no variety?

Are the pools really "freezing" cold? We live in Canada! We want to swim!

Do they "force" you to tip several times? How do you tip and when?

Do the rooms have a nasty smell?

These are all problems I've read in recent bad reviews. About to book and I don't want to make a mistake. It's our first vacation in a few years!

    Thanks, friends :)

Well i just dont understand where such reviews come from. We stayed 6 nights last June in a very nice clean and good smelling room and we loved the food from all the different places and know one forced us to tip anyone but we did tip some each day to the kind hard working staff and all the pools felt good and was a great way to beat the heat. We had a great time and made great friends and will be returning again this June. In my opinion you wont be making no mistake by booking at Temptation and i would be willing to bet that once you vacation there that you will be hooked for life and wanting to retun again as soon as possible.

Well you don't have to go to the buffet, there are plenty of alternatives.
I won't lie, some of the rooms, including the one we had last trip, do have a bit of a "funky" smell when you first step in. It's that moist, heat, Caribbean smell that we've experienced in many, some 5*, places. Does it put us off coming back. NO!

Ive been to cancun numerous times and never had an Issue with the food , Its beyond edible.

No one forces you to tip , You tip at youre own will.

We live In Canada where Its below 20 and 30 cm of snow...Just saying...I wouldnt worry about the pool when knowing youve had enough booze In you to keep that blood warm.
When entering any tropical carib destination Its nat to get that damp moist humid smell , Ive been to Cuba and the smell was no diffrent...Its In the air.

If theres an Issue with the smell of youre room Im sure they can do some thing about that , A possible room change.

Im going on my 5th ot 6th Cancun visit and I find my self going back time after time , One being that I dont like to fly secondly Its clean and decent and best bang for the buck.

Is it true the buffets are nasty with no variety?

Nope, buffet is excellent, especially for breakfast. You'll have trouble not finding one place in the whole resort you don't want to eat! Fussy eaters tend to dislike the buffet, but if it doesn't suit you, you can always try the seafood place (also serves steak and other stuff) or the excellent Mexican restaurant too. Personally I love the buffet and prefer this over the other restaurants as I can be 'in and out' in 10 mins to eat and back to the party!

Are the pools really "freezing" cold? We live in Canada! We want to swim!

Seems the pool is heated on an ad-hoc basis. Quiet pool is never heated, so if you're adverse to cooler water and want to swim in the quiet pool, don't go in the winter months. Last January sexy pool was heated (boiling hot on some days!), but in November temperature-wise it was a little cool our entire trip. As the weather gets warmer the pool temperature won't be a problem.

Do they "force" you to tip several times? How do you tip and when?

Nobody will force you to tip at the resort, ever. Service does not alter whether you tip or not (for example, I usually left the tipping up to my husband as he kept hold of the money majority of the time - on the few occasions I had to order drink or what not on my own level of service did not falter). However, I would strongly recommend tipping as people who work at TTR deserve it hands down for the excellent service they deliver.

Do the rooms have a nasty smell?

I've known rooms to smell 'strange' on occasion, but fear not, if a room is not up to your standard you will have no problem requesting a different one.

I'd go with your instinct. If you've noted the 'bad' points from reviews, then I'm sure you've read the good stuff too pointing out how fun the place is, the great people you will meet, parties you will join, meals you will enjoy etc. If you're still not sure then maybe not to your taste? Just make sure you're 100% sure where you want to go, it's your vacation after all and you don't want to regret your decision!

We have been there twice and are going back again this may. We won't go anywhere else ! All I can say is none of those issues are true. Actually the food has improved so much between the first and the second visit. I have never been forced to do anything, especially tip. The bartenders are so nice that you will want to tip them. They help in making you day and nights extra fun. Never had a problem with the smell either.

My wife and I agree that you get out of it what you want. There is always something that someone will find to complain about if they want. There are just people like that. Or you can relax enjoy the sun, the fun, the atmosphere, and your partner! Have a good attitude and don't let false reviews get you down.

We are the typical TTR repeaters, what can I say, we've been hooked for years. our first trip was back in 2000, we have been back every year (15 days at a time) ever since then.

Is it true the buffets are nasty with no variety?
No it's not true. I'm a picky eater, I admit it, and I love the buffet. Always a wide variety of food breakfast, lunch and dinner to keep me happy. Now I'm sure the typical 5 star type people will snub their nose at it, but then again, this isn't a 5 star resort and it isn't 5 star priced. I'm working class and I enjoy it. Breakfast is always great, wide variety including an omlette station. For lunch I eat either at the buffet or Tex Mex, both are equally good and between the two there is more then enough variety. Dinner at the buffet will typically have a different theme each night such as carribean night, international night or Mexican night. Most nights have a carving station where the chef has some type of meat. If it's a night such as Mexican night (not my thing) I go eat at the Steak & Seafood which is excellant.

Are the pools really "freezing" cold? We live in Canada! We want to swim!
We only go in the sexy pool, which we've never had a issue with that being cold. We also go in the activity pool to play the games, that pool is always cooler due to limited activity, but lets face it . . . compared to Canada, anything will feel warm.
We were there in March one year with Bambi's daughter and her husband. The staff was freezing, all wearing hoodies and saying they were going to die because it was so cold (it was about 65*F). All of the guests were in our bathing suits enjoying the "warm" weather compared to home. Bambi & her daughter had no problem being in tiny thongs and topless and everyone was enjoying the pool, so it's always what you make of it.

Do they "force" you to tip several times? How do you tip and when?
They will NEVER force you to tip. We all tip as an appreciation of the outstanding work the staff performs. We have a standard tip system we use . . . $2 on the pillow each morning for housekeeping, $2 for our waiter at each meal, $5 for our daytime bartender and $5 for our night bartender. So we tip $18/day, but that is 100% our choice.

Do the rooms have a nasty smell?
You're in a tropical climate with humidity, add an air conditioned room and the end result is moisture. This is the same on any tropical island. We are not big fans of air conditioning, each day when housekeeping is finished with the room they turn the AC down to 66, we then turn it off. We have our patio doors open as much as possible, we prefer to enjoy the fresh air, which in turn, will eliminate any moisture and smell in your room. The only time you might get a room with a slight funky smell is if it's a room that's been closed for a week or so and now you're the first to be staying in it. This is the busy season, all rooms will be in use and there should be little chance you will have an issue.

Temptations has the most repeat guests out of all the resorts in Cancun, I think that speaks for itself.

Book your trip, go with an open mind, and you'll have a blast.

    Glenn (& Bambi)
