I know this topic has probably been beaten to death, but I'm trying to put my wife's mind at ease here. We are booked to stay at Temptation the week of Nov. 7-15. It will be my wife's first trip to Mexico (not mine...I was born and raised in Southern California and used to cross the border to Tijuana all the time when I was younger) and she is still a bit weary over this whole matter even though travel bans to Mexico due to the Swine Flu were lifted months ago in May. We live in Germany (I work here and she happens to be German...imagine that, lol) and this country has not been too infected per say, so she was wondering if there is much to worry about by traveling to Mexico in November. She understands that this is a global issue but wants to hear from those that have traveled to Cancun since the outbreak to see what their opinion is. All responses to put her mind at ease and relax the way she should at this "adults only" resort are greatly appreciated! I'm looking to enjoy myself and I really want her too as well...your encouragement is kindly requested, lol
We were there in early May and saw no sign of anyone with the swine flu although the clubs were closed down as a precaution. At this point you're probably just as likely to get it at home. Go and have a great time!
We went April 29th, when a ban was put on non-essential travel, and we were fine, so were the group we went with. We didn't see anyone ill with the flu. We have booked to go back in October and next April. She really has nothing to worry about. When you think about it, it IS just the flu, the only difference being we don't have a vaccine for it. The only people dying from it are elderly and people who have health issues to begin with. Look at statistics of how many people die from the regular flu every year! Hope this helps. Go and have a great time, it is the best vacation you will have.
I was there in mid May, when the flu was "supposed" to be at the highest risk....no sign of the flu, travelled with 5 women and no one got sick. As has been said you are more likely to get it a home.. Goooooo, have a great time!! your on vacation!!!
*wonders whats up with norm and ginny and all the hate for this chinos guys* we just returned last week.... no sine of swine flu anywhere!
we been there from june26-july4... had lot of fun..! No sign of the flu..I would not worry... its been just over a month but we are ready for next visit...
Swine Flu Fears... Hi there, we went May 1-6th, during the height of the swine flu paranoia. No issues whatsoever. In my opinion it was undeserved paranoia. This link has some interesting facts about regular flu deaths vs. what actually happned with the "swine flu outbreak." Essentially from Jan - Apr 09 over 13,000 deaths in the US have been attributed to regular flu strains. Each year 250,000 to 500,000 deaths are attributable to regluar flu strains and 90% of all flu-related deaths occur in those 65 and older. http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/04/28/regular.flu/ The only thing that I can see that suffered from the swine flu scare is the Mexican economy. You stand as much chance catching it, or any flu, at home than you do in Mexico. And if you are going to get sick, you might as well have a good story to go along with in. ;-) Just my opinion. I hope you go and have a great time. Regards, Helmuth
you probably got a better chance of getting hit by a hurricane in germany than catching the swine flu in mexico............. be sure and check out the pictures from my swine flu vacation in may - its titled "end of days - or how i learned to stop worrying and love the swine flu" the best rob
We went to Mexico to get away from the cases of swine flu in Texas. The media is killing Mexican tourism. Oh, and watch out for the drug cartels, you will be shot dead in the street.
