This was our first time at TTR nov 07-14 .we absolutely loved the resort and the people we met there . Our only concern was the air quality in our room ..we were ground floor rm #1113 .the room was always very clean ,but did have a musty odour . The second day there we went on the Boobs Cruise (this was the high lite of our trip) while snorkeling I did injest a big gulp of salt water .. at day latter I lost my voice ,no other symptoms .no sore throat no congestion .It's been a week since we have returned to Canada and my condtion has been getting worse ..finally went to the Doctor .after being refered to a specialist and having a nose scope done .I'm diagnosed with sever tonsilites and a throat infection ,as well as a pulip on my larynx .
Not blaming the resort or anyone else ,just curious if anyone else has run into this down in mexico before

I actually got food poisoning and an intestinal infection :( but my doctor said I could have gotten it from anything. I don't blame it on the resort. It was probably a piece of fruit or something I are that was bad. It was our 2nd trip to TTR and our third time to a foreign country and this was the only time I had an issue. Prayers for a speedy recovery for you :)

I usually get a bit of stomach problems from different food but anything respiratory (throat infections included) is most likely something you picked up on the plane on the way home. Unfortunately that many people in a small enclosed space for wish hours is bound to cause some virus spreading.

I went into a slight depression last year while sitting in the Cancun airport waiting to leave. It only lasted a couple of days though.

Every year this comes up in flu season. Yep people sometimes get sick, mostly on the plane where the air is circulated. Just a known fact that the flu in contagious 7 days before to 7 days after having it. It's not the resort, it's the time of year, mainly flu season. If you want to avoid getting sick, avoid buffet as much as possible and bring your own bubba. People sneeze and cough while dishing out their food too then you come along and well dish out your own. Yep I lose my voice there too, it's singing and partying all night and drinking and not sleeping even 3 hours a night doing it. I also have a tendency to kiss everyone when drunk. I bring my vitamin C to help combat losing the voice and stay healthy. I work in the health field and I take two vitamin C every day so on vacation I keep it up. Sambuca seems to bring back the voice magically too. lol.

    Cancun throat!

Last time we were at TTR quite a few people came down with what we nicknamed the Cancun Throat, loss of voice! Took about 2 weeks to recover after returning home. Yes there was a lot of shouting done to make yourself heard above the music! I am convinced it was the air con in the room. Also had the swollen feet, 'Kankles' 11 hour flight plus dehydration! Drink more water HA HA! I cant understand why ice in the drinks doesn't count!

I usually take 6-10g of Vitamin C a day - 25-30g/day when I am sick. I have no idea how I will get my powder on the plane though - an unidentified white powder may not fly with security if my bags gets checked and I can't fit the whole 2lb bottle into my suitcase. Dammit! Oh well, hope for the best with some tablets I guess. I just got over a nasty flu bug so hoping I don't catch another on the plane on the way down.
