There are unconfirmed reports that the Skyservice chartered airline may have gone out of business. The privately-owned airline has cancelled most of its scheduled flights out of Toronto's Pearson International Airport. But the Canadian Press has been unable to reach Skyservice for comment on the report from television station CP24. A spokeswoman for the Greater Toronto Airport Authority has referred all questions to the airline. So far, the company hasn't made a statement to the media or on its website
Looks like they have gone the way of the dodo... Skyservice in receivership, folding operations - CTV News I swear airlines don't make any money...
This is the report I read today from the globeandmail.com Skyservice Airlines, which flies on behalf of tour operators, is shutting down. The charter carrier will announce Wednesday that a receiver will be appointed to oversee the winding down of the debt-laden company, industry insiders said Wednesday. The closing of Skyservice comes after Sunwing Travel Group, which has its own planes, merged recently with Signature Vacations. Sources say Sunwing had held talks with Skyservice for an early cancellation of the charter airline's deal to continue flying on behalf of Signature until 2013. There have been concerns about the likely loss of the Skyservice-Signature contract in 2012 or earlier, an industry source said. Sunquest Vacations and Signature were the two-largest customers of the charter airline. Founded in 1986, Skyservice employed more than 1,200 employees and operated more than 20 planes. Its fleet includes the Airbus A330, A320 and the Boeing B757. Gibralt Capital Corp. acquired Skyservice in a leveraged buyout in 2007, but its role has diminished since then, with Sunquest recently becoming a major Skyservice creditor, an industry official said.
We have used sky service to go to cancun in the past but not this time thank god. Got hit last year with Conquest going under. We did end up getting our money back from that last year but it was tied up for over a month.
We were scheduled to fly with Skyservice on April 10. Thank you for posting this topic.. I have called Sunquest and they have already rescheduled my flight with Air Transat.. Thanks again for the heads up!
Just saw a blurb on the news clip. Looks like if you are booked with skyservice then you had better get on the phone. We used them last year and also the year before to go to both Mexico and Cuba. Looks as if we dodged a bullet there. Good luck to all.
We were flying out via Sunquest who was using Skyservice on April 10th to Los Cabos (Temptations). Last week they called to say they were no longer running Saturday flights from Toronto to Cabos, we rebooked last Thursday for the 8th to the 15th (and saved $500.00). Yesterday we found out about this. Today we have been informed that we are still going using Canjet. So far it is working, but this is the third change so maybe it is a little starcrossed.
I just got a call from one of my employees who is in Mexico on vacation now giving me some line about Skyservice being bankrupt and not being at work on Monday due to new flights. I figured this would be the only place I could get the real info..... People with Skyservice flights are getting sent home up to 2 days before or after their original flight date.
