Yes we went our first visit to TTR. It's a nice day out! You can pre-book from here which I'm fairly certain not only cheaper than booking when you get there, but a hell of a lot more convenient. If you book here I think it's a private transfer so you can be flexible on drop off and pick up times. We booked with tour company at the resort and had to be out front of hotel at 7am, and didn't get back until after 8pm. Xel Ha is nice but we were ready to leave early afternoon but had to wait it out until return transport picked up around 5pm. Also worth noting they force you to wear life jackets in the water at all times, which is a pain if you're a good swimmer, it gets in the way!
We can book it up for you, either private or public tour. Trina is our tours expert, please feel free to contact her for prices etc. I'm sure booking with us would be cheaper than waiting until you get there and there is a very flexible cancellation policy, and always happy to accommodate reducing or adding people to the group.
I booked x caret through here for a private tour it was an awesome transaction. We even had them stop at puerto murales on the way home for a restaurant we like . It cost us a couple bucks and we bout him a shrimp cocktail but it was well worth it. Xel ha was fun as well but i preferred x caret as there is more to do. Xel ha is pretty much swim the lagoon and done.
Try to do it during a week day. They had some nice little tourist trap stores on site with some nice crafts. They will also take your picture and try and sell it to you. They also have a Scuba scooter thing,,,,, just saying bring extra money for the day. It was fun, and recommend it. Bring waterproof camera. They have lockers on site Getting another 6 or more people to do it with you and booking a private tour with Steve /Trina would be awesome.
We went in July and it was a lot of fun. Makes for a long day though. We booked through the expedia rep in the lobby of Golden Parnassus. It would have been cheaper to book before though but we weren't sure which day we wanted to go.
We did the all-inclusive version our very first trip to Blue Bay Getaway (the old TTR) back in 2003. Was worth it then, but don't know how much it has changed...
