Since we are foregoing a trip to Cancun this year  ... we are going to head down to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge for a couple of days in September with some of our friends to supplement our trip out to Arizona earlier this year. We are only going down for a couple of days and we are staying in a cabin with some recreational options... pool table, hot tub, etc., but we also want to check out some options other than partying in the cabin. So if anybody that has been to the Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge area has some ideas, we would appreciate them. BTW...Dawn has already ruled out Bear Wrestling by the way. So I am hoping that we don't come across any after a few brews.
We used to live there and still live about a 100 miles from there today. What are some of the things you are interested in ? There are several good bars downtown Gatlinburg . Although there are a butt load of cops there so have to be careful w/that . Let us know what you are looking for and I will help you find it...
Thanks for the reply...We are definitely up for the change in scenery. We are coming down from Central Indiana and have only driven through the area, so we're at a loss what it has to offer (other than what the internet says). We will probably check into some shopping and could use some insight to some of the better/fun watering holes. We will use a designated driver or some form of public transportation for sure. Not sure if our friends will be up for Dollywood or another amusement park. The aquarium is a possibility (although we have been to the one in Myrtle Beach, not sure if our friends have). Perhaps Hillbilly Golf or Go Kart tracks...
We live about three hours from Gatlingburg and we visit there at least once or twice a year. As far as things to do, there are too many shows and museums to list them all here. Numerous amusement type parks with go-carts, bungee jumping, putt-putt, etc. You can find plenty to do however some shows are pricey. Don't forget Sevierville which is on the edge of Pigeon Forge as they also have a lot to offer. There's several bars in the area as well as more resturants than you care to see. Expect some crowds in September especially on weekends. If you like wildlife and history, Cades Cove is a must see. Good luck and enjoy your stay.
If you want nitelife then Gatlinburg is it , for play Pigeon Forge , for wildlife it's Cades Cove . The drive from Gatlinburg to Cherokee is real nice and a visit to the casino while your there might land you some money
Thanks again for the info folks. Actually the cabin that we are renting is in Sevierville at Legacy Mountain Resort. Will go over the options with our friends over the weekend and hopefully have some sort of game plan prior to arriving in September. Ha!
I have rented a cabin on Lagacy Mountain and the view from it was awesome. Those cabins are actually close to Pigeon Forge and the one we had had an awesome nighttime view of the town. Beautiful place.
Ghost Mountain In The Sky has also opened back up... Not sure if it will be open when you all go, but you can check it out.. It's across the mountains in Maggie Valley, NC... http://www.ghosttowninthesky.com/ http://www.cherokee-nc.com/ Smoky Mountain Railway http://www.gsmr.com/ Have a great trip!!!
We don't live that far from Maggie Valley ,yet we haven't heard much about Ghost Town since it reopened . I do know that before it closed and was sold it was very unsafe... Therefore I would imho wait til maybe next year for Ghost Town...just my opinion.
