Anyone have any recent experience with skyauction.com? If so, after requesting your dates how long did it take them to respond?

I basically won an auction in the fall for temptations. With the fees they add on it ranges from $100 for 2 a night to $200 for 2 a night dependent on when you go, definitely a good deal.

I chose the pay now confirm your dates later option when I won in the fall and ten days ago found a great deal on airfare. I booked the airfare and submitted my dates to skyauction and the wait began. When you submit you get a form letter saying they will work with their vendors and get back to you with whether it is available and a confirmation. I sent a status request email a week in and got a form letter back saying they are working on it and to be patient as 'values this good take time'.

So now I am a week away and still no response. I would love to know one way or another so I can plan accordingly (even if they say not available because then I get all my money back, or at least according to the terms of the contract)

I would love to hear about others experiences with skyauction booking temptations. Especially how long it took to hear back about your requested dates!
    Thanks

    skyauction, stay away!

I guess no one had any experiences so I will share my experience as it played out today.

I will start by saying I read on here that others had fine experiences so clearly it doesnt happen this way for everyone.

As I mentioned I won and paid for the auction this past fall. Great price. After two weeks of waiting for my dates to be confirmed and the departure date fast approaching (Feb 12th) and after sending an email every other day asking for a status I finally heard back today.
The answer is 'we are unable to confirm your dates. Reason: Sold out.'

Interesting since I can book the hotel on the hotel site or expedia or travelocity or hotelclub, etc. Not sold out there. Since I have already booked my airfare I now must book my hotel via different means. I had to book the airfare before getting the confirmation as I watched it go up every day as I waited the two weeks to hear back.

What skyauction fails to mention is they can take as long as they want to determine if they can fill your request basically putting you over a barrell. If I would have known earlier I would have taken my refund and not booked at all. Now I have to persue my refund which hopefully wont be a problem since the terms of the contract say if they cant give you your dates you get the money back.

Definitely wont use again unless I know my exact dates way in advance. Actually dont think I would use them again regardless, seems shady that they would take this long and then say not available, I am wondering if my price was too good. It should either be available or not right? Shouldnt take them 2 weeks and until 5 days before arrival to say not available.

That sucks! You seem to be handling it better than i would. friends of ours did buy from them n thought they had gotten an incredible deal at $800 for both of them 7 days. after all the fees it end up costing them $1400 n they still need to pay for flights n transfer. Not wqorth the risk

If your still going to book ( since you have your flight) try Alpha rooms
There is a 200 promo code out there also, see other links or Google.

The harder the journey the better the Destination

    Your going to have fun!

yeah, i was very careful with fees and won the auction for $5 a night. the fees made it $100 to $200 a night dependent on when you go. So it was a good deal. (well I guess it really was no deal)

I tried alpharooms and skoosh (i used skoosh last year) and neither had availability for this weekend. hotelclub.com had availability at $265 a night. expedia and travelocity at $303 a night. I am just going to have to drink $100 extra a day to get my money back. I think I can do it. :)

Meanwhile, I am posting bad reviews on skyauction everywhere I can online and am learning others have experienced similar pains with them lately. Several of the reviewers have used them successfully in the past and just recently started having problems. Not a good sign. I guarantee I will cost them more money then they cost me!

FYI, I received a full refund from skyauction less than 24 hours later so that was nice.

Thanks for the update...interesting. I had looked into Skyauction but when I started adding up all of the charges, it was cheaper to use Orbitz with a coupon.
I was going to suggest it to my brother and happy I didn't. It sounds like a big hassle.

You can find coupons by doing a search on Yahoo or Google for almost any travel by typing in the web search bar something like "Orbitz coupon", "Expedia coupon". There has been a $200 off 7 night package in Mexico for Oribtz around...not sure if it is still good...and it is 200entertain(I think). You have to enter it in the box when you do the search.

Jen&Kyle - where did you get your cheap flights? I'm trying to fly around then from Boston, and it's ridiculous! I'm willing to drive to philly for a cheap flight though. I got peeps there ;)
