Haven't been to TTR since February. Beginning to look at booking again but thought I'd see if anyone was aware of any construction going on or planned for at TTR.

I saw a few months ago on here that there was construction down by Nice Shoes... but anymore planned for the near future?

I'm curious about it myself. When we were there at end-Feb, 1st week of March people were talking about it, and what I mean by "people" was the staff around the pool, working the bar service and restaurants, etc. When we were back in October there was a LOT more talk about it starting "after the end of the year."

So, if it is going to be a huge renovation/reconstruction involving the entire southern end of the facility as was discussed by more than 1 person during the trip, I'd love to know when it's starting. Our first trip to TTR was when it was being converted from BBG to TTR in 2007 and the level of construction for that simple facelift was nearly too much to go through and still enjoy our stay. We did, enjoy the stay that is, but it was a narrow margin. MUCH prefer to avoid the construction time frame if at all possible.

At TTR taking an Agua break at our room. There is construction going on at the very top of he building overlooking the quiet pool (picture ontop of the arch you walk under on the way from quiet to the sports pool).

Most of the week there was drilling and grinding going n up there making the quiet pool not quiet. We do understand that there is no great time to build so we've been patient with it. No one has been working up there Saturday so far and I bet Sunday will be the same. The only complaint ive had is that I definitely caught a few of the workers trying to take pictures with their cell phones of the girls.

Wait, a construction worker stopping work and doing something crass and sexist? Why I've never heard of such a thing! That would never happen in the states.....:wink3:

There has been speculation that the rooms being constructed on top of the middle building are some sort of temporary "show room". I always doubted that because in two decades of construction engineering experience I have never seen that. That being said, I climbed up on the roof and took a look for myself. Here is what I learned....

These rooms will be fully functional. They have all electrical, plumbing, and heating and cooling hookups. This is FAR more than a temporary build, and the stairway has been extended as well. The entry doors and balcony to the west have a nice view as shown and I like the wave-like concrete work. The view to the east overlooks the quiet pool and each room has an excellent view of the ocean as well since they are set at an angle.

I am of the opinion that the construction has already started, although only in a small way. There are also numerous survey marks around the pool decks, and the walks between buildings. I am thinking that the plan is to renovate one portion at a time, with additional floors only in select areas, and to remain open during construction. At some point this will mean a pool closure, but that could be accomplished by shifting guests to one of the other pools for a short time. One thing is certain, the rooms being built are very nice, they are meant to be used, and there will likely be more of them.

I also have several pics of all of the work (masonary, electrical, plumbing, balcony views, etc) but couldn't get them pasted into this message. If anybody wants to handle this I can send them over.

I was informed by ''knowledgeable'' ( sarcasm or joke , I,m not sure ,, to be determined),, that new additions/buildings ect ,,, 4 stories or more need elevators by Mexican building codes,,, hence the ''showroom'' designation,, the rooms can't be official yet.

Lots of chatter last week. Rumours I heard included:

    - Not closing at all, just capacity down as various sections improved
    - Temporary take over of a hotel 2 doors down at some point (as they can't simply send members to another hotel - only to a place with the same concept)
    - Large dome cover at Paty O
    - Additional restaurant.

This is just what I heard chatter around the pool. IMO those new rooms are definitely not temporary! I agree I think construction has already started but they're keeping it quiet to avoid this affecting bookings. Yep it was not quiet at the quiet pool and you could hear construction noise as far as the beach. The constant party music drowned it out everywhere else.

As far as picture taking, didn't see any workers taking pics, but I took one as a 'safety moment' to use back at work, when a worker was busy doing something on the outside facia on a scaffold with no hard hat, safety wire or even a hand rail on said scaffold! Mexican construction is crazy - I work in construction over here and that would be an on the spot dismissal and subcontractor permanently removed from approved supply chain list.

Our room 3108 was directly below construction Nov26-dec 3.... Sucked big time!!! Quiet pool was horrible to even try and hold a conversation... We were not impressed with lack of front desk sympathy :( and yes all workers would stop and stare when we would open our room door lol so to give my wife a chuckle I walked out naked once
