    Hola everybody,

I love to bake in my spare time, but I have noticed that it's very difficult to find baking supplies in Cancun. :banghead:

    Any suggestions?

Also does anybody know where to find hi-ratio veg. shortening?

    Thank you in advance.

    Susy

    Susy,

    What is "hi-ratio veg. shortening"?

I am not really into baking, but have you tried any cooking with coconut oil? Love it and the coco does not overpower the basic flavor.

    Hola T.j.,

Hi-ratio shortening best when making Buttercream icing for cakes because it is extremely smooth like fondant and does well with humidity.

I love coconut oil, I use to add 2-3 tbsp in my diet everyday because of the health benefits, by chance do you know where to find Organic Coconut oil?

    Thank you,

    Susy :)

I should have been more clear....they have organic coconut oil. I did notice they had Crisco(not what you are looking for) but I have never seen Crisco here, so they might have what you are looking for.

They actually have Crisco there now, but Crisco has removed the trans-fats from their recipe for healthier life styles so it is horrible for icings. I know very unhealthy, but the best cakes in life aren't good for us I suppose :).

Mercado 23 has a great specialty store for baking. I do not remember the name but if you start from the Isla Contoy restarant, walk past the San Fransisco super market and a few stores down, on the left hand side is the store.
