My daughter is studying Anthropology and Archaeology at university in the UK. She will be here for the next 2 months and needs to do some voluntarty work related to her studies so that she can write a thesis.
Does anybody have any connections/leads in this field.
If so I would love to hear from you by PM.
    Many thanks
    Tracey

My only suggestion would be Ek Balam. They are still working on the site and I would find that fascinating, were I a student in a related field. It's a bit of a commute but it could be done. Pretty much open highway all the way.

Good luck and let us know what she ends up doing.

It looks like she has some work staying in a Mayan village near Chichen Itza. They are building some houses and replaning traditional Mayan crops, plants and trees which will help the village become self sufficient. She has also been asked to teach the children some salsa and some english. The place is called Casa de los ninos - they have a facebook page.
Last month someone donated just 500 pesos and with that they have managed to replant 2 fields and help many families.
I will keep you updated on how she gets on.
    Thanks
    Tracey

The organisation desperately need a guiatar- they give the kids lessons but only have one guitar to practice on- if anyone has one to donate or knows who I might ask please pm me.
    Many Thanks

What is she writing her thesis about? If cultural anthropology is her field, I'm sure she's familiar with the body of work that's already come out of the region. That's where I started...it's worth a visit to these villages (Chan Kom, Dzitnup, etc) after having gotten through the research already done.

Luckily for researchers, Yucatec Mayans are pretty good natured about the whole thing. There's also a research institute called OSEA located in a village near Piste (near Chichen) that does some very cool stuff and if I had the money, would love to study there.
