My wife and I are always looking for economical ways to take advantage of the fact that we live here, so near the sea. One of the ways we discovered was going to Las de Guanatos, at Playa Tortugas, where you could sit at tables on the sand, and be served large glasses of draft beer for 25 pesos and guacamole and chips large enough for two for another 30 pesos, while looking out to sea or watching the tourists embark and disembark from their tour boats (watching others have fun is just as much fun for us!) Well, I went there two days ago and, sadly, Las de Guanatos at Playa Tortugas is no more....
I never ever saw more then 5 ppl there...day or night. I had a friend that did promotions for them, and they tried to do the Club thing on some nights. No one showed up. Sad cause their food and drinks are so so so so good! I guess I couldn't be one of the only ones to hold down the fort. What a bummer!!!
Noooooooooooooooooooo! Can't complain, though, we only went there once. Loved it, but for some reason never got back.
Paradise Restaurant is right next door. Katalina, the owner, gives 30% discount to locals. Give it a try. She's a wonderful lady and could use the business,
On the other hand, Las de Guanatos at the bullring has made fairly substantial outside improvements and looks capable of handling even more customers. To me, they have the best margaritas in town that don't cost $200. I heard their main bartender is gone though so I have to check that my statement/opinion is still valid.
The bullring location also has the best mojitos i've ever had! Will never go back to the Playa del Carmen location, though.
I will have to try the Mojitos at Las de Guanatos. But, Gringation, I have been known to drive to Playa, just to eat at Babe's and drink at least one of their fabulous Mojitos. Maybe that will be a good location in Playa for your Mojito fix.
Another one bites the dust.....the Meridien Hotel Cancun. The Meridien Cancun is going to become a Sandos property beginning March 1st.
