:?:  :?: What is your reasoning behind that claim? If it has anything to do with the "news" media, I'll refer you to the following links; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranoia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensationalism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear_mongering
Mat: Including the countless that travel here for only that reason, even more. Not completely unlike Thailand (lived there for 8 months) where its unfortunately not a priority to investigate these crimes Its almost impossible to exclude prostitution(children included) in any big holiday area like Cun... It can be done, but considering the money these a-holes bring in to the area each year - nada.
Life_N_Cancun: What I meant with harboring was that not much is done about it, not that they necessarily live here "full time", my bad.
While I would love to think that that sort of thing doesn't happen here, I'm not that naive. All I can add on the issue is, if you do know of specific info, the Cancun police have a dedicated unit for such cases that would love to hear it. Otherwise its the sort of issue that will only go away when human rights become more important than $$$....
Prostitution exists all over the world. But Cancun being full of tens of thousands of pedophiles, 'tens of thousands' I'd like to see where you came to these figures and if you are right something definitley needs to be done! So posibbly 6% of the population of Cancun are pedophiles?
Life_N_Cancun: Im sure we all would like to think that it doesnt exist I have tipped off the police several times, but not on a SINGLE occasion have they even showed up, despite me waiting for up to 30 mins at the spot of the certain event. In Thailand I got grabbed by the cops for approaching them regarding a "middle aged man" who was making deals with a young boys parents(bartering!) and then taking off, hand in hand with the young boy... I got told to "enjoy my vacation and stay out of trouble"... Thats the main reason I only lasted 8 months in that country to start with... Im not saying its not "as bad" as Thailand, but its certainly visible to the regular eye. I do continue to report them as soon as I see anything suspect, but it kind of sucks when they dont even bother to show up  Yes, unfortunately it will exist as long as it brings money.
