So although you didn't use the dame product how long did it take for you to get used to and master the software you used?

started off using it about 3 years ago, but that was just 2D modelling ... floor plans etc etc .. don't work in that area anymore so just play around with it at home

doesn't take long to pick up 3D modelling, you've just got to be able to visualise things and have a degree of spacial awareness! there are plenty of books around, it really is a step by step process!

i would get to grips with 2D stuff 1st, then move on to 3D, makes it easier in my opinion

yeah i'll agree with you Franco27. I use Autocad now and have been for a few years and it would help you a lot if you were at least familiar with the commands before moving onto 3D stuff.
One of my co-workers used 3D studio max to do all his renderings. But i think he models them in Autocad first then moves them over to the other software. He's also gone to Sheriton College in Toronto for 3yrs and got lots of training. It shows too... cus he can put out some pretty nice renderings in a short amount of time.

AutoDesk Inventor Studio is a 2d/3d modeling software! When I was working as a mechanical engineer at my last company thats all I used! You can also merge autoCAD into inventor as well! Great 3d software tool, but I currently use Pro Engineering, same thing pretty much, just a different platform.
