Has anyone booked through American since May of 2014 and if traveled have they charged a 25.00 check in bag fee? I have never had to pay for checked bags in and out of Mexico on Delta or American and I have just read something on the American site- but states execptions apply ( not sure what that is ) 41 Days!!!!
Same things for us in canada. It's just to force people to bring less baggage and more carryon .. The problem is here in canada we have law that we can't bring much more than 500 ml of liquid and gel in the plane with carryon
May 2014 we got one checked, one carry-on and a personal item free. One way or another, you pay for your bags...I guess it matters little whether they add it to your original ticket price and call it free, or sell you a less expensive ticket and charge you at online check-in.
We just flew AA earlier this month and we got hit with $25 each going down and returning from Cancun. Won't make that mistake again :deadhorse:
Same here. It was a bit of a surprise as that must have come into effect between March and October 2014 for American.
West Jet and Sunwing are still free to Mexico. Other airlines cracked down on carry on size and weight at the same time as adding the fee. I avoided AC this time as protest to the new fee
These days, you just need to do all the math when shopping for flights. We flew Spirit on the way down to Cancun last year. We paid $80 extra to sit next to each other ($20 each leg of the connection for both of us), $30 for each checked bag plus $20 for a carry-on for a total of $160 total add-on charges to get to TTR. We still saved about $400 total for the trip over the next cheapest airline. The moral of the story is that it's a good idea to add the ticket price and any other charges for each flight option available and compare them all. Don't just book the cheapest flight or refuse to book an airline that charges for bags or seat choices - it still may be the best option.
I also weight in the cost to upgrade the seats which often gives you checked bag(s) as part of the cost.
We got stuck with the AA bag fees in October and November. They said things changed in April (We didn't get charged back in February). Fees are waived for certain Advantage members, but apparently my status now only gives me free bags when flying domestic.
We flew in Aug. And didn't pay anything for baggage on the way to Cancun but they charged us $50.00 on the way back to Des Moines.
