Summary: TLDR: Nothing comparable. Save your money and your vacation time, come back when TTR has reopened.
    ==========================================

Seeing lots of people rushing into booking other places because of the shut down, and others looking to book a new Adults Only place because their next trip to TTR is going to be some way off.

Firstly, I would suggest people dont rush into anything. Leave it at least a couple more weeks, or even a couple of months if you can. TTR have said they are going to soon provide details of alternative options for those that have already booked after the hotel shuts down. I dont know if they are setting up deals with other adults only places and, if they are, how much commitment they have to moving the TTR vibe there while closed. It could be that they just recommend their other properties or it could be they are setting up deals with known adults only resorts such as Sens and Golden Parnassus and will offer special deals. If they are looking to set up deals with other resorts outside of their own portfolio they run (a small) risk of transferring people so successfully that people actually like the new place more and hurt their own business upon reopening. Therefore, I don't think they will do that but it is still an unknown at the moment.

Let's now look at alternative 'adults only' places. For the purpose of this discussion I will not include places that are adults only like Le Blanc, Me Cancun etc, but dont allow topless. There are plenty of those where 'adults only' just means no kids. So let's look at the places that claim a sexy vibe with topless or clothing optional:

    Golden Parnassus:
Great beach, but currently much more tame than TTR. A relatively small following of diehards who would most likely frown upon folks attempting to create a TTR atmosphere and affecting their own idea of what they like in a Cancun resort. Topless is accepted but will attract attention and make people who do it uncomfortable. Nightlife and themes are poor. Over the years I have seen many people switch from GP to TTR and they will never go back to GP. Also seen plenty of people staying at GP come on the Boobs Cruise and extracting the tops of the females is difficult.

    Oasis Sens:
They try hard but never have enough occupancy of the right kind of people to make it work. Their previous concept Oasis Viva could have worked had they not sold the hotel a month or two after launch and given up. Great beach again, but nightlife limited and very few topless. Like my school report, tries hard but fails.

    Breathless:
Not open yet (few more weeks). Great opening deals ($250 per night), but after opening specials you are looking at $500 a night for the cheapest rooms. An unknown quantity right now, but I expect it to be sterile, topless allowed but frowned upon and kind of empty with poor theme nights and little guest interaction. I'm actually thinking of booking a few nights ourselves for the opening and some market research.

Desire (Maya and Pearl, treated as one):
Much smaller resorts with fewer rooms and therefore fewer people on premises. Already has it's own loyal followers, so likely limited availability. Clothing optional rather than topless and much more lifestyle orientated, so too extreme for many. Much higher prices, older average age than TTR.

    Hedo, Jamaica:
Never been there and don't know much about it. But from my years of reading other peoples comments my overall view is that if you thought the current TTR was run down you will think it a Palace compared to Hedo. Far too sexual for most TTR folks, older age group of cougars (and their husbands) looking to get laid 5 times a day and the creepy single guys in search of that. Blowjobs and sex going off everywhere. Food poor by Cancun standards, and it's Jamaica - largely not safe to venture outside the resort.

    My recommendation:

I have thought long and hard about setting up my own deals with some of the Cancun hotels above, or even leasing a small hotel myself. My current view though is that nothing will compare. People will try their best to influence change at new places but wont have the critical mass to do so and end up disappointed. 30 -50 people at a different resort is not going to change the whole resort to TTR style short term, let alone long term.
If you're already booked at TTR for October, November, December etc and need to find an alternative, hang on. Don't rush into anything until we learn more.

If you were planning on a trip during the shutdown and haven't booked yet, but thinking about an alternative, hang on too. Wait for the reviews from the TTR Refugees who go to the alternative hotels in Oct, Nov, Dec. Consider saving your vacation days and money for when TTR reopens, which I feel will be sooner than many expect.

As long as we are somewhere in the Caribbean for two weeks next may we will be happy. There are so many beautiful places to visit. TTR being closed means that we get to see new places :)
Hell....we may even enjoy ourselves and find a new Favourite playground :)
In the meantime we have this years holiday to be getting on with :)
    9 days to wait.

Takeover weeks organized by you could be awesome for you and awesome for CC people. You should get a lot of credit for making TTR what it is. A lot of that starts right here. I'm actually surprised some of these other adults hotels don't hire you straight up to fill their hotels. Thanks for the fun website Steve!

Hey Steve - wanted to let you know you've nailed the description of Hedo perfectly. Only thing you forgot was cocaine on the bar at the disco at night.

We stayed there YEARS ago when it was more of just a nudist resort. But we've visited on day/night passes within the last 5 years. Yikes!

I hope for everyone who is trying it they know what they are getting into. The vibe is nothing like TTR.

Thanks for your opinion. I think for a period of time there is going to be plenty of that on here. Some will get argumentative about people not agreeing with them. You have never struck me as that type, so it's nice to read things from you.

I like debates, just don't like them on here, as I think of this site as a mini vacation in itself, so I just have two thoughts.

    1. You definitely have seemed "bought in" with the new TTR from the start. Maybe you are an investor, or maybe you're just worried about losing Boobs Cruise people. Both are completely understandable, and not a complaint, just an observation. It's nice to hear the positives side of this from someone close to it, so I appreciate it.

    2. I do somewhat disagree with the thought that people shouldn't book now, or should even not go anywhere and save their money for next year. Having been to GP twice I've seen it very quiet, and very wild. My thought is you don't have to have the entire resort being crazy to have a good time. If you hook up with just a few couples that can make all of the difference. Going somewhere in the mean time with a much larger group than that say 20-30 couple, I think a good time can be had. Sure it isn't TTR, but it beats staying at home during the winter, and missing a vacation opportunity.

Most of us don't get multiple chances at vacations each year, so waiting for TTR to re-open could result in a lot of missed vacation time depending on the timing. We can only go at a certain time of year (fall).

As for people liking something else better? I think the phrase, "absence makes the heart grow stronger" comes to mind. I think TTR will still be a strong or maybe stronger vacation spot when the dust clears.

    Good thread, Steve.

A few thoughts from our POV:
We were some that "rushed" to book our December vacation (at GP) just a week after learning about the shut down - but we made sure to book through a site where we can cancel penalty free just in case. Our dates are not very flexible due to child care, and while there is no place like TTR (we have been around to many resorts, we agree) a week in Cancun is still better than a week in Michigan in December ;)

We anxiously await hearing what Original Resorts has to say about overflow hotels, back up hotels, etc. And to see if there will be other alternatives or resorts emerging in the upcoming months. We booked at GP for the December trip, and are hoping more TTR refugees will do the same because we also feel that having a group of 20-30 and meeting a few cool couples and bringing them into the fold will be more fun than being shipped off to a place unknown. A few TTR minded couples can make a trip worthwhile. While I would never want to ruin GP regulars vacation, they are going to a topless resort so I expect they will have to be ok with seeing someone (ME) topless! They can stare all they want, it won't ruin my vacay. :)

Breathless could be fun. We have friends that just got back from Breathless Punta Cana and said it was gorgeous but 100% vanilla and their two girls were the only ones topless all week. Would it be diff at Breathless Riviera Maya? Perhaps. But at 500 a night for December I'm not willing to take that chance. Looked into DRM for our December dates too and it was booked (which I found out was due to a LS takeover) so that's out. GP on a deal through 3rd party was only $30 bucks more than TTR for bottom grade room.

Thank you for providing a place for discussion - I have a feeling the Sens and GP forums will get a lot of use in the upcoming year while we await the re-opening of our new home! I'm so glad we decided to do two trips to TTR this year as June will be our final party at the old TTR!

To add: I think if you decided on renting out a place to house refugees it would/could be wildly successful! :flash:

Seeing this thread makes me wonder what you, Steve, will do during this layoff. I can't imagine that no boobs cruises for 10 months will be good for your business. How are you going to adapt to this change?

It's not often I disagree with Steve but suggesting people forgo a vacation for a year and wait for the resort seems a little extreme. Who knows what can happen in that year? We've always said the party is the people and not the resort, move the people and you move the party. I think an influx of 50-100 people next Halloween, NYE, April, May or June anywhere will prove that. I understand you business is partially tied to the resort Steve but with all due respect I found this post a little self serving.

Hi all, wife and I just got back from TTR last night and we are members. We went to the members update meeting with a rep and came away greatly disappointed as it was just an attempt to upscale and the rep had Lil to no information on the impending changes or how TTR was going to handle the temporary closure. What we we're able to learn is that they are planning to temporarily move the hotel operations to another local hotel however that hotel has not yet been determined. TTR will undergo a massive redesign with some existing structures being revamped and the older structures being completely torn down and rebuilt. Those that have gotten better pricing from site's other than TTR 's will no longer be able to they are really going to go hard on Expedia, Orbitz, etc being able to offer lower rates, their way of forcing membership I guess.

Not a lot of information and you will probably hear different details from different members as we did while there, basically a lot of things being said by staff depending on who you spoke to.

Really not much help here but I do agree with Steve in giving it a bit of time to allow things to develop and better information to be released by TTR!
