Interesting fact I learned yesterday. I was trying to add two extra nights to my october trip and was checking pricing everyday from my work computer. I was getting the same pricing everyday them BAM the price went up $40 a night and I was bummed. :banghead: Happened to mention it to a friend in Texas that booked through Expedia and while I was texting him he jumped on line and presto it was back down to the original price. I immediately jumped on line but it was the same higher price My IT guy was here and I mentioned it to him in passing and he suggested I log in from a different computer as if I have cookies from the site they can control the pricing so I jumped in my car drove home and accessed alpharooms from my work laptop and my home computer ( which I access very rarely) at the same time , same dates. And guess what..... Two different prices. $40 a night difference. I booked off my home computer at the lower prices. Just something to watch for...... Frank
Yup. Cookies are a bitch like that lol... That's why I don't allow most cookies to be applied automatically.
two questions. 1) would clearing your cookies have worked? and 2) from a marketing standpoint, what is the reasoning behind raising the prices on you after a couple of looks? I would think that if someone is shopping prices regularly, after logging in to see the same price a couple/few times, they'd jump all over it if they logged in and saw it cheaper suddenly. Not the other way around. BTW, we have had the same thing happen on either expedia or orbitz or travelocity, can't remember which one. But it worked the way I said it should....and hubby jumped all over it when the better deal came along! I think they have it backwards. ~Lora
Good info to know Frank, thanks for the update. I always delete my cookies and all viewing info history quite often (after every time I check out porn on the internet, so that's quite often).
People believe in trends and think 'oh no! it is going up! I better book quick.' Kind of like what is happening on the other thread about prices. Have to be patient and wait until that 3-5 month mark based on our experiences. But yeah we too have experienced a higher price when returning. Yes, clear your cookies and they shouldnt know you are the same person visiting.
Similar story last year,,(April) people were seeing 135@ night on Alpha Rooms, whenever I looked it was 195@ night.Weird
Clearing the cookies did not work. And I was checking the site 3-4 times a day as we had friends that were looking to book also. Donald, we had the same last year. I had a friend in NY that booked for $30 a night cheaper same day. He ended up booking for me also. Thought at the time it was a east/west coast thing.
We added 3 nights to the end of our upcoming trip in Sept and decided to do it over the phone to be sure I had instant confirmation with TTR..when I called Alpharooms they told me the price for adding the 3 nights and it was nearly 175.00 more than the price showing online the rep told me that I was seeing a price that had not yet been changed online and that even if I booked online I would end up being charged the higher rate. I booked online received the lower rate and the lower rate is still showing for those dates as of today.
Ok. Today I'm sitting at work. Jumped on desktop. 7 nights alpharooms for May 2014 $1556 Cleared cookies. Same Pulled out iPad that is working through wireless. Same price Looked over at office partner and he has his iPad. Asked to borrow it. Set it right next to mine Logged on to alpharooms on both at the same time.... Wait for it . . . . . Same dates $1156 for two on his iPad , mine was still same $1556 Booked on his for $1156 with $10 deposit :mnm: Moral of story??? Try try again ;-) Frank
