I want to make up a little first aid/medicine kit for our trip. I was planning on putting pills (non-prescription - like ibuprofen and Benedryl) into little pill baggies you can buy at the dollar store and write what it is and how to take them on them just to save some space. I'll be putting it in my checked bag. Would this cause a problem on a red light check at the airport? My husband thinks putting pills into little baggies has bad news written all over it.
I've always carried my prescription & non prescription in my carry on or in my backpack. Never had any problems anywhere & even have had it searched & seen during a dreaded red light.
I bring a plastic case that has one compartment for each day of the week with me in my checked luggage. It has several pills: multivitamins, fish oil capsules, probiotics, aspirin, etc.., and they are all out of their packaging. I have never had a problem. If it were prescription meds, however, I would keep them in the original containers, just to be sure. One other thing, my multi vitamins got moldy one trip due to the humidity, so now I always keep everything in the fridge, where there is no humidity.
A friend of a friend hit the red light in Puerto Vallarta 3 years ago with some unlabelled vials of homeopathic supplements in her suitcase. Last I heard she is still in a PV jail despite the efforts of her friends, family and the Cdn government to bring her home. I do not take any chances...I leave medications in their blister packs and in the original bottles even though it takes up more space.
Prescription meds leave in the blister packs but the hotel and Pharmacy across the road have good supplies of those stuff. I have taken first aid kit before with no probs but awlays leave it in the packs or boxes just in case
Two years ago I got the red light...I had vitamins in plastic baggies and prescription meds in the labeled bottles. I was questioned about the vitamins and became scarred when the guy called over a female. I thought I was going to be searched by the female. She took the bag, looked at me again for a long time and waved me through saying that next time I should leave pills in original packaging. Lesson learned. I now buy anything that isn't labeled or in an unopened package at the drug store across the street from TTR.
