Are flights usually on time leaving Cancun? I have a choice of 1 1/2 hour connection time or 3 1/2 hours in Charlotte. Is 1 1/2 hour connection time sufficient for arrival back in the states? What is your experience?

It's always good to have extra time. We were delayed coming back in May due to torrential rains. They had no visibility so we sat on the runway forever waiting for the rain to let up and missed our connection. But if you are on time, just try to catch the earlier flight if there is one at your connection point.

What airport are you flying into?

My flights are usually a little delayed leaving Cancun but not toolate....usually.

There have been times when I've had as much as a several hour delay.

Personally, I think one and a half hours may not be enought time considering you have to go throuh Customs and Immigartion and recheck your luggage. But it depends on the airport. Some are easier to get through than others.

And if by chance the choice of one and a half hours is Philadelphia I can tell you from personal experience that is NOT enough time in many case.

We had a 1.5 hour layover in Charlotte coming back in July. We made it to our gate for the flight to NYC with about 5 minutes to spare. Some other people with lots of luggage were not so lucky.

I am the queen of getting pulled at customs so we always try to get a longer lay-over when coming home.
Ironically in January we were pulled at customs and all our luggage made the plane unlike a lot of other people who were waved through. We learned a lesson there though too....never put your car keys in your luggage. A couple on our flight did that and ended up spending the night in a hotel a couple hours from home until the luggage caught up the next day.
