Just checked on the current price of Delta and Airtran prices for our Sat trip to Cancun and they are actually around $50 cheaper than 6 weeks ago. Sometimes I guess the early bird does not get the worm !!! Will have to rememeber that next year, but of course TTR would be long sold out by now.
Never get concerned about that kind of thing. If you were to wait until the last minute to book your flight the odds are just as good that the plane would be full or very expensive!
Bing has a travel predictor that, when I have used it, has proved quite accurate at determining if prices will rise or fall. However, I think it's relatively uncommon for last minute flights to be that much cheaper as you're suggesting, but obviously it happens. I thought Orbitz or one of the ticket consolidators had some kind of price guarantee but I could be mistaken.
I flew from Atlanta to New Orleans Last Sat Nite (I booked at 6 Pm for a 10 Pm flight). Airfare was over $1000. Normally 1/3 that.
Flight we came back on to NY today (jetblue) only had 40 people on it. We booked 8 weeks out. Their price never came down. Might be reaching the breaking point for most people was 447 RT most we have ever paid
I priced New Orleans to Atlanta last week and it was $253 round trip. I ended up not going and my brother went. He booked his flight 2 days later and it was $550!!
Just checked Orbitz for our trip that we got for less then 900.00 each and they no longer show our non-stop Frontier flight. As a matter of fact there are no non-stop flights available and the cheapest on showing in on Spirit and its 1020+ and it is an overnight flight! Glad we booked when we did. Debbie
I have never considered TTR or Cancun for a last minute or "quickie" mini vacation, but after looking at the price for this weekend, might have to rethink.
It's always about $650-700 per person from here in Oregon. But my Husband travels to a different country every month for work, plus a bunch of domestic trips, so the miles add up quick. Our upcoming trip cost us 70,000 miles total and $150. :headbanger:
