Hi. I will be at TTR for two weeks in December (9th to 23rd). A friend I met at Temptation Cabo last year booked the same times as I. Two single men, he's 40ish and I'm kicking 50 (egads!). We'll have seperate rooms. He's a quieter, laid back sort of person. I am more outgoing and active. I really enjoyed the seemingly endless series of activities at Cabo, and get the sense that there will be more of the same at Cancun, with perhaps a step up in intensity. So, that's me (us). I'm wondering about a few things... - What would be the best rooms to be in close to the main pool and not too close to the all night party? I love to party, but also enjoy some quieter moments. Also, I would rather have a view into the resort over out to the street. From looking at the map I was thinking the 3000's would be a good place for me. Are these good rooms? I'm prepared for the scents that go along with a tropical climate, but would rather avoid aromas of old plumbing, if you know what I mean. Last question on rooms, how accommodating is the resort to room requests when checking in? - Are there seasonal bugs in mid-December? Particularly mosquitoes. I'm not squeamish about crawly critters, but want to take sensible steps to limit assorted bites and exposure to possible disease transmission. Also, are there better bug sprays available at Walmart in Mexico than can be found in Canada? I ask as I am under the impression that things that are banned or limited here may not be there and do not know a lot about these things. - About food, how easy is it to get walk-up reservations at the two restaurants that require bookings? - Finally, I might ask where to have fun in Cancun, but think I've probably already booked myself in there. If you'll be there the same time as I, see you soon! :huepfen021::huepfen021::huepfen021:
If I remember correctly, mosquito activity is pretty low around this time of year, but for people like me that seem to attract biting insects all year round it is still a problem. To avoid insect bites, get something with DEET as an ingredient. Other 'natural' sprays don't work so well. You have to be careful though because it is sticky, smelly, can stain clothes and strip colour from leather/metal (learnt hard way and nearly ruined my watch last trip!). Works very well though. You need to use it before heading out in the evening. Better to apply when not clothed and let it dry for 5 or so minutes. I'd suggest bringing this with you, if you can. The stuff available in Mexico was overpriced. I got a few bites (the one or two nights I forgot to apply the damn repellent), and the shop over the road wanted around £15 for anti-itch cream (usual cost is around £2). Personally, I wouldn't bother with trying walk-up for Asian or Italian. The other non-reservation restaurants are excellent, especially seafood place opposite quiet pool. If you still wanted to, very early or very late would be your best bet, plus a generous tip!
Thanks for the reply. Good to know the mosies are at a low point around now. I will check to see if I can get something with DEET here. Is the stuff over-priced at Walmart as well? What would be a generous tip for walk-up reservations?
If you don't feel like dealing with waiting at 10 am to book a reservation then yes I found tipping worked. $10 worked almost every time. Once I upped it to $20 as there was 4 of us and once even when I increased it to $20 they couldn't sit us but said come back in 30-45 mins.
