We own a condo on Isla Mujeres and need to replace a couple of items, most critically being a futon sleeper in the living room. We will be down in November and plan to go shopping then. We have been told to look at Telebodega and were curious of other options available. We need something that can be taken immediately (no ordering to pick up later) and that is reasonably sturdy as our place is rented out about 75% of the time or more and gets a lot of use. Also, any recommendations on comfortable and fairly durable patio furniture? What we have should last one more season, but it's always good to be prepared. Thanks in advance!
So very true about Costco! We will definitely look there as the Coscto here at home has some great stuff right now...just wish the inventory was the same in Cancun! Last time we tried the Cancun Costco they didn't have anything so maybe next time we will have better luck. Just need to remember to actually bring my Costco card when we come!
Try Dico, I've found their products to be a little nicer than some places and definitely on the cheaper side. Not sure about immediately delivery, but you can check them out. The store is on Tulum, close to Plaza Galerias. http://www.dico.com.mx/index_clean.php
There is a new futon store outside of Soriana, though as with all new businesses here, who knows if they'll be there next week? For patio furniture, you might check out Home Depot.
Thanks Canuck! We will definitely check both out. We did get the furniture we currently have on the balcony at Home Depot, but then last December they hardly had anything. I guess it just depends on if you hit it right!
Sams seems to always have futons as does the Walmart next door. I have also seen them many times at the Grand Plaza Walmart near the back left hand corner. They seem to be priced around $2,200 or so if I remember correctly. Yesterday I saw a liquidation sale being advertised at De'taglio (not sure of spelling, at Paseo Cancun. Not sure if they have futons. DO NOT SHOP AT EITHER SERGIO PILATI'S OR AZCUE. Many complaints at Profeco about both companies. I had to make a formal complaint against Sergio Pilatis who ended up with $9,000 in fines plus they had to refund my purchase money of slightly less than that amount. I had to threaten Azcue after waiting 3 months for 2 drawers to a bedroom set I purchased at their store at Plaza Las Americas.
BVG_Steve. Well I sure had problems with Azcue. This was around late March of this year. It was strikingly close to my experience with Sergio Pilati's, which resulted in me filing a complaint with Profeco. Pilati's incurred fines (multas) that exceeded the purchase price of my merchandise and I ended up with a full refund in cash. In the case at hand, I purchased a bedroom set. Delivery was to be by a certain date that was set by Azcue. I had excuse after excuse. Finally they called to schedule the delivery and installation of my bedroom set. They told me that they were short 2 drawers for my nightstands but they would be delivered in 3 more weeks. To me this was not a huge deal. Hey, it's Mexico. Well, 3 weeks turned into 3 months. Oh yeah, I also had 2 glass shelves, one of which was chipped. It was not disclosed and was placed in such a way that it was not too obvious. The sales gal I was working with gave me a shelf from the display model. Actually I traded the bad one for the good one. I had to go to my car to get a screwdriver as they had no tools there. Ultimately I had to go to the store (PLA) and ask the manager to call the sales gal, who no longer worked there but to whom I told in detail about my Pilati's experience and told him to ask her if I would seriously take them to Profeco. He did and she did. 3 days later I had my drawers. They came from the store in PDC allegedly. They just pushed me to the limit. I was also told by an employee that Azcue had complaints at Profeco and a lot of employee turnover. Just curious; when did you buy your furniture? I had previous experiences that were just fine. But it should not take months to remedy a missing piece issue. Let the Buyer Beware.
I know you are not in town yet, but if you have a friend who could pick them up for you I have two matching futons (the khaki ones) that I am selling because I have to leave Cancun. Here is a link to the photos! I also have prices listed there... The list is current so everything on there i still have. http://www.flickr.com/photos/42964620@N02/ Maybe this will help!
