I want to buy some top shelf tequila like 1942 / Classe Azul to keep on hand during the stay.
Should I look to buy that in customs at my departure from Miami, or can I get in the airport upon arrival to Cancun?
Can anyone advise on the selection at the Cancun Airport?
I’m sure I can buy from stores while in Mexico, but I don’t want to be spending time on that once we get to TTR.
Thanks and See you at Tryst

There area few options. The most cost effective and least amount of hassle is to purchase your alcohol wherever you want at home and then pack it in your checked luggage in a plastic zip lock bag (or two).
Other than that .... purchases can be made in the airport prior to boarding, at the duty free shop after going through customs in Cancun, on the way to the resort (USA Transfers), or walk to a liquor store at the resort. The liquor selection in duty free can be limited but you should be able to find some top shelf.

We normally just pack a few bottles in our checked luggage. Each person is limited to three liters of liquor to import, if you have more it has to be declared and an import tax paid.

The biggest risk to packing is a broken bottle. I have seen this once... some friends packed a glass bottle with vodka (and I think they broke it not the airline). But we've never had a problem with a broken bottle. It takes a lot for them to break and I'll pack it with the t-shirt section of my luggage.

We got our booze at the duty free shop at the airport in Cancun. Didn't want to risk it getting broken in our luggage and then having to walk or go somewhere after arriving at the resort, and it getting all over our clothes.

They had 1942. We are big Don Julio fans and they had a few we had never seen. Prices were good v. USA. Oxxo (to the right, small place) across the street carries some decent labels but hit or miss if in stock.

if you do pack anything liquid along with putting it with tshirts you should also put it in a zip lock bag they make pretty big ones .
we are most likely bringing a bottle for jello shots this year ..I am gonna wrap it in a shirt then put it in a zip lock bag and then put it among other clothing things
not the xo store but the one on the left as you walk out of the store and go a tich past the pharmacy has a pretty big selection of booze
they have a vanilla tequila called toncha that is amazing
