Not TTR related but an incident that happened here last night has just hit Reuters and will be all over the press tomorrow. Thought I'd pre-empt any concerns and put the real story out before it hits the International press and gets twisted. There's a guy from the Ukraine who has lived in Cancun for several years. In the last few weeks I think he must have had some kind of mental breakdown and has been videoing himself verbally abusing Mexicans in public places, calling them pieces of shit etc stamping on the pizza of kids having a picnic on the beach and threatening to cut the heads off Mexican babies. He styled himself as the "Russian Nazi" and decided to post his videos on youtube and Facebook. He lives in a poor part of town and someone outed his address on Facebook. 200 Mexicans descended on his house to try to kill him. Police arrived, told the angry crowd to leave it to immigration and not to enter his house. The Police then (conveniently) left the scene. Shortly after about 20 guys armed with metal bars and wood broke into his house and started to attack him. He defended himself with a knife resulting in a 19yr old getting stabbed and killed. The Russian, already severely injured, tried to escape across an adjoining roof top but was stoned from the street knocked out and attacked while unconscious. He survived but is in critical condition, in a coma, with multiple skull and other fractures. Despite the death of the 19yr old Mexican being in self defence of a home invasion, the Russian will be charged with murder if he survives. This was all live streamed on Facebook from many sources and has subsequently just been picked up by Reuters, so will be all over the news tomorrow I think. So a few things to remember if and when you see a report. - this happened in a very poor part of town, well away from the tourist areas. - the guy was not a tourist, he was a foreigner living here who decided to abuse Mexico and it's people and publicise it via social media.
F' D up news!!! If it is the same guy, we actually met that guy 2 or 3 yrs ago at Los Arcos. With Mar being Ukie, she chatted with him in Ukrainian. He was a bit twisted, but seemed hsrmless at the time. He was hanging out with the MJ impersonator that night. Something must've set him off

Just read that article the other day and was wondering about the logistics to the hotel. Thanks for posting this Steve. And you managed to add a little more than the article I read. Though they did conclude with him possibly having a bit of brain damage as the result of the beating and he may not even remember anything of the attack or what proceeded it. Still fucked up no matter how you slice it.
