Well, my brother flew out to Vegas a few weeks back (he lives in NC) to meet my uncle (lives in TX) while he was on vacation.

He rented a chrysler convertible (not sure which model) and it got stolen out of the parking garage of his hotel. They still haven't recovered it.

He didn't take out the $50 insurance for it....
He drives a company truck for his business...it won't pay for it...
He had to pay for it out of his pocket (credit card)....

My grandma told me this last night on the phone...I had no idea. She didn't know which model, just that it was a Chrysler. I am assuming that since she said it was between 30 and 35 thousand, that it was a 300 or crossfire convertible...guess it could have been a sebring....

FUTURE ADVICE...always always always take out the insurace when renting cars.

That's horrible. Hopefully the car is found, but chances are even if it is found it will not be in good shape. Which company did he rent from?

It might be cheaper in the US, but if you're a Canadian and you rent a car more than 4 days a year anywhere in NA, it's cheaper just to get it added to your personal car insurance.

I pay an extra $80 for the "leisure package". It covers me on all my renals for the year, plus if ever I send back a car for repair on a claim, the insurance company rents me an equivalent or upgraded car, versus just reserving the shop's courtesy car. There's more, but that's the main reason I pay for it.

You guys have it too, and I heard it's cheaper. Worse case, get a gold card with travel benefits. You can get them here as low as $60. They include rental coverage.

I'd never drive a car in the US without insurance. Forget the cost of replacing a car... imagine someone cuts you off and slams on the breaks in front of you. Hopefully the RENTAL car can stop quick enough, or you're now being sued for medical because you gave someone a stiff neck for a couple hours. Matbe even mental anguish because now they're afraid of driving. Collision insurance aside, never drive without personal liability insurance.
