Hi all, a Happy New Year to all of you.

We are leaving on Friday and I have a few questions that I wanted some feedback for.

    - Which camera to take? I have a nice SLR Nikon and a pocket size point and shoot Nikon. The SLR take amazing photos and we use it especially when we go to scenic places. Never been to Cancun so don't know if theft should be a worry since it is worth over $1500.

    - Would we be able to get a prepaid sim to call home to check on the kiddos for our unlocked cell phones? We have no problem in Europe last year.

    - So had a very bad case of Acne in my twenties:icon_cry: which left a lot of scars on my back and since I was blessed with a lol of body hair, the combination made me very conscious so I usually keep my shirt on around the pool (just so I don't gross anyone out). Would that look odd since even most girls will not have their tops on??

Thanks for any suggestions/advice and we'll see some of you real soon!!

Can't wait to get the party started!!:icon_mrgreen:

I wouldnt take the most expensive camera just because you would have to be toting it around everywhere and, especially, next to the sexy pool (where you will prolly be the majority of the time) where it might get wet. The best pics you will take are gonna be "party pics" by the pool or bar and you only need a decent camera for that...just my opinion

Not sure about the phone because we didnt use ours on our trip last time

Don't worry about wearing a shirt or not...people at TTR are generally a live and let live crowd...although that may be more incentive to take your shirt off and know that nobody cares about how your back looks. My wife actually had a allergic reaction to the snorkle goggles while we were down there...the area around her eyes and forehead swelled up so big we had to have a doctor come to the room twice and give her shots/meds...we still had 3 days left of vacation and went out every night anyway (including lingerie night)...nobody said a word about her eyes/face other than hope you feel better and have some more drinks!! It was really, really awesome

probably would agree with the previous couple on the camera - theft would more than likely not be an issue (no more so than anywhere else you would travel). the main issue would be keeping up with it

t and i bought a nice waterproof camera that works great and take great pics as well - if we lose it no big deal (excpet somebody will end up with some great pics of t :)

no clue on sim card - when i am on vacation i dont even carry my iphone

keep your shirt on or take it off - whatever you feel comfortable with - there is really not a lot of judging at this resort - those that do typically are not very welcome

    advice?

if you have never been to cancun then you have never been to coco bongo - its worth going to cancun just to see the show at coco bongo

we have been multiple times over the years and it is always great - the resort takes a bus there on mondaynight - be sure and go with the resort

    have a blast

We would suggest leaving the expensive camera at home...

Not sure about the SIM card... we have regular monthly mobile phone service through Verizon and with the international calling option enabled (it's free), we have had no problems calling or texting home with it.

As for your back... if it bothers you, you will have no problems wearing a t-shirt or tank top at the pool... a possible suggestion would be this one:

T-Shirt Hell :: Shirts :: I HOPE I DON'T BLACK OUT, BECAUSE THIS IS AWESOME!

I agree with taking the point and shoot camera. It's much easier to carry around and if something does happen to it you're not out a ton of money. We buy the 40 minute phone cards from the mini mart right next to the resort. They cost $12 and there are phones on the street right outside the resort as well as throughout the city.

a friend of ours had a nice slr camera and it was stolen when we were 20 feet from the chairs. dont ever leave anything of value alone at the pool. its the same as it is anywhere you go.
you will not feel bad about your body. no one will say anything, have fun,
quit worrying, you are gonna have a blast

Cheaper camera is the way to go. We always try to get to know people in the chairs near us. Helps to have people keeping an eye on your stuff if you're away for a bit.

As for your phone, we got the international plan from AT&T for one month. I think it cost 30 or 40. Have it turned on right before you depart and turned off two weeks after you return. It takes a little while for the charges to register so u don't want to turn it off too soon. It is great to have the cell phone working just in case of an emergency when you have little ones at home. And we did have an emergency as our 4 and 2 year olds locked themselves alone in the bathroom and I had to talk grandma off the ledge and walk my 4 yr old thru unlocking the door!

    Have fun!

We're taking our first trip in a week and can't wait, I don't know much on the other questions but something to keep in mind with the camera one. If you're an avid photographer who fully utilizes a DSLR then consider bringing it for some nice sunset\beach pictures and pictures of the mayan ruins if you plan on making that trip. If you just plan on walking around the resort and having a good time then bring the point and shoot. I plan on doing both so my wife is packing her point and shoot and I'll be bringing my D90 with lenses for the ruins trip.

Thanks for all the great advice guys! AdventureCouple, thanks for the suggestion and the link to the T-shirt but fortunately we don't have time since we leave Friday:).
NorternCouple, I too have a D-90 and I usually take it everywhere I go but I think I will leave it at home this time so I don't have to worry about it! Maybe, you can share some photos of your trip with me!!
Hopefully see some of you soon!!
