My wife and I will be staying here at the beginning of June this year for five nights. So excited! I have a few newbie questions: 1. For the a la carte restaurants, can I reserve spots a few days in advance? Could I show up on the first day and make reservations for the next day and the one after that, for example? If not, what's the best time of day to make reservations? 2. The site specifies that the bars serve brands like Bacardi and Cuervo. If I don't specify, will they serve well liquor? (In other words, would I have to say, "I want a Smirnoff Drunken Monkey"?) 3. Has anyone been rained out in early June? 4. We're both 25, but we're a little quieter than typical twentysomethings. I'm really laid-back and wouldn't worry if it was just me, but my wife is shy and hates being bothered. Will we still have a good time? Are the harassment levels generally low? 5. What's the noise level in the a la carte dining areas? Can we expect a quiet-ish dinner, or is it boisterous like a bar? 6. Is there usually enough equipment to go around for the sailing, kayaking, and windsurfing activities? Do they have snorkeling equipment? 7. Timeshare pushers. How best to avoid? Last time I was in Cancun, I'd won a plane ticket in a contest and stayed at the cheapest possible hotel in Puerto Juarez, so they obviously didn't waste their time on me. Thanks in advance for the help. Cheers, and see you all in June! :daveandmo:
Thanks a lot! That answers almost everything. Re: harassment, I was mostly just worried from all the threads complaining about drunk, creepy single dudes. My wife will probably stick with me most of the time, anyway, and June isn't exactly spring break...
Get an avatar picture posted here and start posting on the June group's thread so you will know some people before you go down, and are prepared for the theme nights. Being part of the CCC group keeps the creepers away and other CCC members will watch out for your wife, but aggressive single dudes generally are not a problem any month but March. Have a great virgin trip!
I first went when I was about 24 and I never felt harassed by the guys. Would some drunken old guys come up to me and seem a little creepy? Yes, but they were always polite when they could tell I was uncomfortable.
Reservations are made at the Seafood restaurant. We went at the end of June and there were a few random small showers that did not affect anyone. We did have one gully washer of a rain storm that halted everything for about 2 hours. That's when it pays to know someone with Jacuzzi suite. :wink3: However, once the sun came back out, so did everyone else. Tom & Lorie
Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd just add to an existing newbie question thread. Do they use strobe lights at the resort clubs (Patty O's/Nice Shoes)? C suffered a stroke a couple years ago and now strobe lights really have a bad effect on her. This could change our plans for nights at the resort.
Let me stretch, and I'll tackle your questions! 1. For the a la carte restaurants, can I reserve spots a few days in advance? * Maybe. Members can, it is possible that, if you talk nicely enough on the phone, you could swing that. It'd probably take an "upgrade," charge a/k/a gratuity to make it happen. Could I show up on the first day and make reservations for the next day and the one after that, for example? * More possible. If they aren't totally booked solid, that's how it's usually done. If not, what's the best time of day to make reservations? * 8:00 a.m. in the main reservations area. Unfortunately, they move that around on you from time to time, so I can't tell you precisely where that'll be when you go. 2. The site specifies that the bars serve brands like Bacardi and Cuervo. If I don't specify, will they serve well liquor? * Yup. And, you still might not get the Smirnoff. 3. Has anyone been rained out in early June? *I'm sure someone has, but not us. 4. We're both 25, but we're a little quieter than typical twentysomethings. I'm really laid-back and wouldn't worry if it was just me, but my wife is shy and hates being bothered. Will we still have a good time? Are the harassment levels generally low? *If you want to be chill, you'll be allowed to totally chill, no worries there. 5. What's the noise level in the a la carte dining areas? Can we expect a quiet-ish dinner, or is it boisterous like a bar? * Very chilled and relaxed, usually. Not like a bar. Not like a church, either. 6. Is there usually enough equipment to go around for the sailing, kayaking, and windsurfing activities? Do they have snorkeling equipment? * I've no F-ing idea, I go to Temptation to drink, talk to cool people and hang out with my nearly naked wife. I leave "sport" at home. 7. Timeshare pushers. How best to avoid? Last time I was in Cancun, I'd won a plane ticket in a contest and stayed at the cheapest possible hotel in Puerto Juarez, so they obviously didn't waste their time on me. * Say no thank you and keep going. Simple. Thanks in advance for the help. Cheers, and see you all in June! :daveandmo:[/QUOTE]
