From time to time, there are 5/10K runs, often sponsored by the City, costing just pennies to participate in. There are not many in the summer, but starting again this fall, they will resume. I think there may be enough interest among our readers, regardless of age, to form a casual running club. Meeting once a week, or even just from time to time, to train together and then compete together in these events, could be fun- not to mention the requisite refreshments following any good training session, or competitive effort! At least three other posters have expressed an interest in this to me, personally and recently, so I'm optimistic this may be a real possibility for the future, especially when you add myself and my wife, plus two young ladies who like to run with us. (P.S.- None of us is fast, so relax!) Here are some photos taken at an event last fall, just to give you an idea of the festive atmosphere that prevails at these events. Please PM me, if you'd like to be in touch regarding any plans. My wife ran in the event pictured below, along with 180 others! Water was provided along the route, with fruit and free massage for those who desired it, at the end of the event, on a warm, September morning in Cancun.
You already know about the running club Club Cero, right? They have a website and their calendar is on the FondoYucateco website.
Running club Thanks for that additional bit of information, Kathy. I think what I had in mind was something more like friends getting together to share an activity they all enjoyed- I just called it a casual "running club", not meaning to imply anything involving too big a commitment from anyone other than to have fun. I mentioned that none of us is "fast": I think we would range, on a day when it wasn't too hot, from about 27-32 minutes for the 5K, from fastest to slowest. You can guess who that later person might be....
Hey guys, i wanted to ask a slight off-topic question, does anyone own a Nike+, You know one of those sensor things that you put in your show & can track your progress with your ipod. I was thinking of getting one with the sensor & ipod adaptor, I wanted to know if anyone has experience using them with an ipod touch, how reliable they are if not used with shoes designed by Nike that have a cavity specifically designed for placing the sensor. Oh what do you use to carry around your ipod with the sensor attached...
I have a watch. I can start it and stop it. Oh, it also goes with my heart rate monitor. That's about as fancy as I get.
