I was thinking the other day how I haven't noticed any discussion on CC's forum about the upcoming U.S. Election. My, my... how times have changed. Just a short four years ago, this board was buzzing with heated debate about the 2004 Election. Sure, some of the players have since moved on (or at least we don't see or hear from them very often) but the fervor is definitely gone with this year's election. Having said that, I think I'll toss out the first volley... Being a Veteran, I have always leaned Republican, as Republicans do take better care of our men and women in uniform. I too have always been relatively fond of John McCain, as I have seen him as a "Middle of the Road" Conservative. But to the chagrin of my military brethren, I'm going to be voting for Obama/Biden this year. I just think that their ticket suits my personal interests, as well as my family's. Anybody else's thoughts or views?
It would be difficult for me to vote for Obama and his socialist, welfare state economic policies. Two very excellent recent Wall Street journal columns point out that he is making false promises and using a deceptive strategy to make his economic plan attractive: Obama's Magic Presto, change-o! By KIMBERLEY A. STRASSEL "And now, America, we introduce the Great Obama! The world's most gifted political magician! A thing of wonder. A thing of awe. Just watch him defy politics, economics, even gravity! (And hold your applause until the end, please.) To kick off our show tonight, Mr. Obama will give 95% of American working families a tax cut, even though 40% of Americans today don't pay income taxes! How can our star enact such mathemagic? How can he "cut" zero? Abracadabra! It's called a "refundable tax credit." It involves the federal government taking money from those who do pay taxes, and writing checks to those who don't. Yes, yes, in the real world this is known as "welfare," but please try not to ruin the show…. And just watch the Great Obama perform a feat never yet managed in all history. He will create that enormous new government health program, spend billions to transform our energy economy, provide financial assistance to former Soviet satellites, invest in infrastructure, increase education spending, provide job training assistance, and give 95% of Americans a tax (ahem) cut -- all without raising the deficit a single penny! And he'll do it in the middle of a financial crisis. And with falling tax revenues! Voila!" Obama's 95% Illusion It depends on what the meaning of 'tax cut' is "One of Barack Obama's most potent campaign claims is that he'll cut taxes for no less than 95% of "working families." He's even promising to cut taxes enough that the government's tax share of GDP will be no more than 18.2% -- which is lower than it is today. It's a clever pitch, because it lets him pose as a middle-class tax cutter while disguising that he's also proposing one of the largest tax increases ever on the other 5%. But how does he conjure this miracle, especially since more than a third of all Americans already pay no income taxes at all? There are several sleights of hand, but the most creative is to redefine the meaning of "tax cut."… Read the entire article http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122385651698727257.html
I can't wait for this to be over! I am so sick of getting emails from people who have NO IDEA what my political views are, and they keep insulting my intelligence by sending garbage about my candidate. Do they actually think that I would read their propaganda and lies, and change my mind? I do MY OWN research and reading, and then I decide who I am going to vote for ... nobody does my thinking for me! Last election I had a co-worker who told me she had to vote for the candidate that her husband's union was endorsing  Yes, she was too stupid to decide for herself!!! I also think politics and religion are private, and shouldn't be discussed among friends, too many people take offense. With that being said, I am confident that my candidate is going to win, because he's definitely the better candidate!!! :flagusa: ..... :flagusa: ..... :flagusa:
I say this every election. But it does apply more this year than years past. I am so tired of the endless coverage and bombardment of political propaganda. People should vote for the candidate that best represents their interests. I do fear that many young people will be voting this year without researching the candidates and "going with the flow" of their peers. And I still firmly believe that a straight ticket vote is a waste of your vote. No party possesses all of the best candidates. If that is your viewpoint then that party has done an excellent job in brainwashing you.
I too am sick of the unsolicited (and unwanted e-mails) I have gotten over the last year, mostly from uneducated people that really have no clue what either candidate stands for. As a bit of a news junky I read and read and read pretty much anything I can find, then check and recheck the facts. Then I will make a decision by educating myself about the candidates. I really don't think some dumb email that the sender probably did not even read is going to have an affect on me.
i hate politics.....the new mrs. tried to get me to stay in and watch the debates with her over going out for drinks.....yeah, that didnt work so well for her, and i ended up getting the business about it, but oh well. Is it important, of course, it always is....do I give a rat's ass? Not in the slightest. I do however hate the fact that Obama has a 24/7 paid programming channel on Dish Network now, its really annoying (not that I watch it, but its just an extra second I have to waste trying to flip through the guide and see whats on)
The new Mrs.... did we miss something here? If you believe everything you read it is over and we should be planning the coronation to celebrate the landslide victory. I get sick of the ads that don't even play well with themselves. One ad says we import 24% of our oil. Another says 70%. No one stops and says it can't be both.... If I didn't have a real job I would start a BullSh*t Alert news agency that called out both sides. Oh well..... I did here that Chicago has been replaced by Ohio as the voter fraud capital of the country. One county has more registered voters than it has people living there. "Vote Early, Vote Often!" Jamie
