I haven't posted here for awhile, I've been trying to get my feet planted here in Cancun. Now that that's almost done. I am available 24/7 by phone. I am 100% bilingual. I work every other night at Hospital Galenia in the ER, on Tulum past Home Depot, where if it's urgent or not, come to the ER ask to see me and the hospital charge is $100 pesos, my consult fee is $200 pesos. There we have all the services available should they be necessary, ie. lab, xray, ct scan, mri, etc. that of course would be extra but it's there if needed.
House calls are usually the same, of course depending on what needs to be done. I am looking at a consultorio right now in central Cancun, around Coba and Yaxchilan. I would be more than happy to answer any questions, concerns or fears, PM me and I write a note and I will pass on my cell number or we can meet for a business card. TJ and a few others have my number if you can't wait for a reply.
Thanks to everyone who helped me when I first arrived and all the support you guys gave me. This is a great site I hope to be able to add to it as I can.
    Dr. James Goodwin MD

I don't know. After that night at Los Arcos I'm surprised at the posting.

Why did you decide to come work in Cancun? You charge less than $10usd a consult or less than $20usd for a Home Consult. I know a lot of Dr's here that charge at least twice what you charge and find it odd that you charge so little. Where did you practice and what are your Credentials.

Well to start I'm sorry you feel surprised at my posting Elizabeth, Regardless of what happened to you at Los Arcos, the fact remains I am a English speaking Doctor living in Cancun by my choice as where I want to live. I apologize if anything said offended you, but as I recall there were many things being said by many people who all were drinking.

Now to address my credentials...I was trained in Durango, Mexico after working for 30 years as a surgical/orthopedic assistant in the US Army and Austin, Texas. After many years I decided to attend Medical school and Mexico was a financially sound option. I spent 5 years in school, 1 year of Internship and 1 year doing Social Service. I am here in Cancun because this is where I've always wanted to live, got the chance and here I am.

As far as the $200 house call, well everyone has the right to charge whatever they feel is fair. My attitude is if I charge $200 pesos (which is a base consult, the $100 pesos is charged by the hospital in addition to my consult charge) and get known and provide a good service then those patients will tell their friends then their friends and so on.....therefore I will see more patients than Dr. Whomever who charges $500 and up., Also I'm a general Medicine Doctor NOT a specialist, who deserve to charge more.

Well I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions or questions. I would be happy to discuss any issues anyone has at anytime. There are many people on this site whom I've treated since arriving here and I'm sure if you ask around you will find that they will give me a good reference.
    Thank You for your time.
    Dr. Jim

I came late to the Los Arcos get together, so in terms of drinking, I hadn't gotten to the stupid limit until we decided to bring the party somewhere else much later. That was way way after you left.

Prior to reaching my stupid limit (because that night just happened to be bad service night at Los Arcos so it took me longer to reach it), I observed and heard (i really wasn't part of it) several things that surprised and concerned me. If using the "drinking excuse" is acceptable to you thats fine. I was dancing on the bar at Corona later on and partaking in various shots. But I also wasn't looking to build clientelle. Well...unless I planned on selling shots....

Thats great that you speak English, there are many doctors here that do. In fact I have 3 of them, two doctors and one dentist. They are excellent and I go to them simply because they are good doctors with reputable practices and diplomas all over their walls. Not because they speak English. But yes, it's a bonus.

You are simply looking to do the same and thats great. Word of mouth is huge here and people rarely use the phonebook since asking a friend is much more reliable. That is how I found my doctors.

Good luck. Use word of mouth to your advantage. If people are pleased with you, you should have a huge clientelle base in no time.

Come on. This board is not a place to air bad feelings or dirty laundry or whatever happened, particularly if it happend on Yaxchilan and one or more were under any kind of influence.

I have known Dr. Jim since he moved here and he is an intellingent and funny guy. He has helped me and many of my friends out with medical issues. He was the admitting physician when a friend fell off a horse and spent hours in a walk in clinic with a ruptured spleen, and she had severe internal bleeding until her blood pressure dropped so low that her very life was at risk. Someone there finally had enough sense to get her to a hospital where surgury was performed. I told Jim she was a friend and he helped monitor her treatment until she was released. I give him credit for helping save her life, even though he is not a surgeon.

Jim has treated another friend, repeatedly at his home.

He is a wild and crazy guy but the first one I will call when I need drugs. No No No - Just kidding there. The first one I am calling when I need medical attention.

Back to square one - Who among us has not offended someone, even family and friends, when a bar is involved. Let that person cast the first shot glass.

I had not witnessed the "incident" that night, I have just been told that Jim had offended someone. I didn't even think it was you Elizabeth.

I agree with TJ. Who has never said something bad to someone who felt insulted? Not even under any influence, it is called, I think, a blunder. You don't usually do it on purpose, just your tongue acts without your will. And right after you would like to get the words back. That cannot be done :(

I hope you will not hold grudge on Jim forever. Maybe he is a bastard, I don't know, that has nothing to do with his skills and expertise. I don't understand why you all question him all the time about his background, I have never found one in Cancun very competent, even though they charge high fees. And one VERY dangerous. Regarding their background.. well...

I met Jim only on that night, and not hearing that, I found him intelligent and open-minded. It seems I have a very serious eyes problem, and upon my return I wanted to talk with him. And NOT as an ophtalmologist!

See you Jim, and good luck :)

Thank you for the kind words and references, As far as I am aware there was 1 (one) comment made directed at Eliz. by me which I apologize for, but as I recall that was the end of it. Not several comments...Oh well...Hopefully one day I will have my office with diplomas all over my walls and not in suitcases where they are now. Thanks Everyone I look forward to talking to y'all (Texan talk).

My post had nothing to do with Los Arcos or anybody that has been offended by the DR. I find absolutely nothing wrong with asking for credentials especially from someone that you may want to trust your health care to. I was also under the impression that the Dr. was a Practising Physician from the USA and wondered why he would move to Cancun to practice Medicine, I now realize that Dr Jim did not practice in the States and understand why he is working in Cancun.
