Ok, so we always like to bring a couple bottles of Tequila back from Mexico as gifts (who am I kidding, for me!). I don't want to do it just to save a few bucks on tequila, it's not worth the risk of it getting broken and carrying it around. I like to do it to get something good we can't get in the states. From those tequila experts, can you think of a really nice Tequila that is available in Mexico but not in the US? Thanks!
Ever try tequila creama? I've never been able to find it around here! PS: it's not good tequila.........but sweet tequila.....different!
Some would say that I have a problem, I say its not a problem but a gifted pallet that never seems to get enough Tequila (lol)that being said, the biggest thing that is different from Mexican Tequila is that, even if the tequila is the same brand ,it tastes smoother and better in Mexico, because it is a smoother but slightly weaker blend in Mexico. For some reason my favorite Tequilas from Mexico are all 35% 70 proof, in the states you cannot get tequila that is distilled and cut at 35/70 proof its all 40% and 80 proof and it tends to have a bit more of a bite,(more so than you think) try sampling a lot while in Mexico first and find a favorite, buy it there and bring it home because it will not be the same in the states even if it is the same brand you thought you enjoyed while in Mexico. Makes for a great reason to travel to Mexico though, just to buy more Tequila..lol Love the Don Julio!!!!! Cabo Wabo
I recommend hitting the duty free liquor store at the Cancun airport on your way back. You can't miss it. Plus, you can buy it and carry it on the plane, since you've already cleared airport security. Prices are good, and they have a ton of various tequilas.
absolutely I would second that, we do that every year, and if you hit some of the tasters tables some will let you sample!:mnm:
We grab some bottles of Don Julio upon arriving to get our pregame going and then on the way home, we grab some bottles and load up on something we would buy anyway, so we save the money. They pack it in cushioned wrap so there's no worry about bottles breaking, and then we have a nice supply when we get home. After all, Winter is Coming.
Yeah we bought some Aha Toro at duty free last year and enjoyed that. I guess I was more asking - is there any particular brand only available in Mexico that "You MUST just buy"? If not, I'll grab some Don Julio on the way out I suppose! Thanks everyone, we leave in 12 hours Off to bed for now.
